Celebrating the life of

Salvatore Francis Molella

July 18, 1936 - January 13, 2018

Salvatore Francis Molella

Salvatore F. Molella, born July 18, 1936.

The oldest son of his deceased parents, Dominic and Amelia Molella, from Millbrook, New York, Sal passed peacefully in the expert and loving care of Hospice Savannah on January 13, 2018.

Sal’s sister Beatrice also predeceased him.  Surviving Sal are his brothers Lou and Dominic (Chick), their wives Gerry and Gloria, of Savannah, and numerous loving nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Sal was a Korean War era, Marine Veteran, and a member of his local VFW, serving as its Commandant.

A retired IBM employee, active in organizing community events including bringing the Parris Island Marine Corps Band for a small-town USA (Millbrook, New York) Memorial Day Parade and Concert.

Sal will be remembered for his vegetable garden, and beautiful flowers, which kept him connected to his father.  His retirement passion was continuing his Italian Heritage of Winemaking, and hosting large family gatherings in his back yard.

He maintained a keg of beer in his garage fridge painted in Marine Corps Red and Gold, where he flew the Corps colors and the Stars and Stripes with pride.

Sal easily won the hearts of all his caregivers. The family will be forever grateful to his compassionate doctor, Tim Daugherty, and the professional and volunteer staff of Hospice Savannah whom he grew to love.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James The Less Catholic Church, Savannah, GA, on Friday, January 19th at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be in Millbrook New York, in the Spring.

Donations may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P. O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

I was saddened to hear of Sal's( the oldest cousin on my Dad's side) passing. I remember the holiday visits from Poughkeepsie to Millbrook as a child to the house where I spent the first two years of my life. I remember the old mill and the creek across the street. I remember Uncle Chick's garden in the backyard where he loved to sit as the patriarch, a glass of wine in one hand, playing "fingers" with the other. No one could beat him! I always looked forward to Aunt Millie's pumpkin pie, which was a reward at the end of the feast she always prepared. And of course we kids had a ball ....Sal, Louie, Bea and me. I hated to go home and couldn't wait for the next trip back to my birthplace. Louie and Chick, Sal will always hold a special place I'm my heart, as do you guys. I will pray for him.

To all of the Molellas, I am terribly sorry to hear that Sal passed. He was one of the greatest storytellers of all time, so funny and great fun to be around. I'll never forget the many Memorial Day barbecues at his house, his "Eternal Tap." and how much I enjoyed being in his company. He was truly one of a kind. It hardly seems appropriate for me to say "rest in peace" to the man who was the life of the party. Congratulations on a life well lived, Sal. You brought a lot of love and laughter into so many lives. I will never forget you.

May the wonderful memories you have of Salvatore bring you comfort during this difficult time and may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope by means of undeserved kindness, comfort your hearts and make you firm.”—2 Thess. 2:16, 17.

We would like to extend our condolences on the passing of Sal. Simply said he was a great human being. As a mentor he provided an endless stream of memories. During our exchanges I always remember a devil smile attached at the end of a message, His generosity towards the community and especially the students was done without fanfare. On behalf of the benefactors I want you to know that it was appreciated beyond all measure. He will be missed because in his presence was a better place. Rest In Peace my friend, Matt

Uncle Sal was a kind and gentle soul, a man with a heart of gold who loved his family with every fiber of his being. He also loved life and squeezed every ounce of joy from every minute spent with family and friends. He embraced me as one of his own, even though we were only related by a marriage, treating me not just as family, but as a son. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering love left a lasting imprint on my life. Whether making wine or listening to his many stories, I will always cherish the bond we shared and the many moments that brought us closer. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him and miss him deeply.
