Celebrating the life of
Thomas Manning Horton, Jr.
Passed away on November 17, 2024
Thomas Manning Horton, Jr.
Thomas Manning Horton, Jr, 77, went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2024. Tom was born on June 8, 1947, to Dr. Thomas Manning and Dorothy Sterne Horton. He grew up in Columbus, GA, graduated from Columbus High School and attended the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and an MBA in Accounting.
Tom was a devoted father to his surviving daughters, Madison Allee Horton and Sarah Horton Noleto, and grandchild, Ethan Hackle. He is survived by his sister, Amanda Horton Dorman (Wes) of Savannah, GA; three nephews, a niece and five great nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents.
Tom was a commercial real estate appraiser for most of his career, working in Atlanta. He retired to Pine Mountain, Georgia, and eventually settled in Savannah to be near family.
Tom had a passion for biking, once bicycling across Georgia, and later motorcycle touring from his home in Pine Mountain, Georgia up the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to Canada. His enthusiasm for professional motorcycling grew, watching both from home and the grandstands.
Music, especially John Prine and Nanci Griffith, frequently blasted throughout his neighborhood and his headphones. From high school rock band guitar player to lifelong listener, music brought Tom great joy.
Tom had deeply held friendships with a revered few whom he found to be authentic, intelligent, humorous, trustworthy and humble. These are the courageous qualities he bravely displayed.
Tom's family will have a private celebration of his life on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
