Celebrating the life of

Barrie F.M. Bell

Passed away on November 11, 2024

Barrie F.M. Bell

Barrie Bell, born March 12, 1935, in Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and devotion to family. Barrie was the beloved son of Kay and Eric Bell and a cherished big brother to Garth.

After moving to New York City to pursue a career in finance, Barrie dedicated over 30 years to JP Morgan before retiring in 2000. A committed provider, Barrie worked tirelessly to give his family a comfortable life, embodying strength and independence.

He married Jo Ann Bell on April 16, 1966, and together they raised five children—Megan, Matthew, Rachel, Justin, and Caitlin. He was a proud and loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Francis, Alex, Emily, and Annalise.

In retirement, Barrie and Jo Ann relocated to The Landings in Savannah, Georgia, where he embraced new passions, including golf and travel. For over 30 years, Barrie spent summers at his Nantucket home, building lifelong friendships and sharing in the joy of watching friends and children grow together. Every weekend, Barrie flew in to join his family—weather permitting, as Nantucket’s famous fog occasionally kept him away. Known for their lively annual gatherings on Hummock Pond Beach, the beach parties became so beloved they were dubbed The Hummock Pond Beach Club

Known for his tough-as-nails attitude, Barrie was also a generous and devoted family man, teaching his children the value of hard work, independence, and kindness. He was an avid observer of the stock market, a lover of history and war films, and always eager to learn about different cultures. In his younger years, he cultivated interests in aviation and history, even earning a pilot’s license.Barrie was also a proud member of the Deke fraternity, a part of his life he cherished.

Barrie’s legacy lives on through his family and the many friendships he made along the way. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

One of my favorite memories I have is when Grandpa Barry and my Grandma Jo Ann surprised me with a visit while I was in high school. I think that it might have been a particularly rough day for me and seeing them made it so much better. I always had a great respect for my grandfathers hard working attitude and legacy which I can only describe as inspirational. He is leaving behind decades of hard work and an incredible family, which I am grateful to be a part of. I want to follow in his footsteps and live up to what he has done with my own dreams. My heart goes out to my grandma, I wish I could make it out there to give you, and everyone a giant hug. Love you all. Thank you grandpa, I love you and will miss you dearly.
