Jerry Alton Turner

Jerry Alton Turner, Sr., 73, passed away at home on November 1, 2024. He will be mourned by his family, friends, and all who knew him, as he was an extremely caring, loving, and generous man.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Jerry was the firstborn to his parents, Alton Turner and Alice Sanders Turner, on March 19, 1951, in Metter, Georgia. He moved to Savannah at a young age, where he was raised and spent the majority of his life.

Jerry served in the United States Army as a military police officer. On March 16, 1973, he married Linda Earlene Brown, and together they had three children, whom he made extremely proud. After returning from the Army, he attended trade school to become a carpenter. He had his own business for many years before working with the National Park Service at Fort Pulaski National Monument.

A man of faith, Jerry was a member of Riverside Baptist Church for many years and more recently became a member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Earlene Turner; his brother, Alan Raymond Turner; and his parents, Alton and Alice Turner.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Alton Turner, Jr. (Andrea); daughters, Jennifer Burgess (Ed) and Dr. Joy Turner; five grandchildren, Mason Turner, Drew Turner, Turner Burgess, Lily Burgess, and Abby Burgess; his sister, Patricia Anderson; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Brown; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jerry was one of the most influential people in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today had it not been for his guidance. His wisdom and humor shaped the man I am today. Miss you Jerry.
