Celebrating the life of

Edwin D. Robb, Jr

July 07, 1940 - October 29, 2024

Edwin D. Robb, Jr

Edwin “Ed” D. Robb passed away on October 29, 2024 in Clemson, SC. He was the only son of Edwin D. Robb and Elizabeth McHose Robb.

Ed was raised in Merchantville, New Jersey and was a 1963 graduate of Dartmouth College. At Dartmouth, he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, aka, the original Animal House, and lettered on the Dartmouth Varsity Lacrosse team.

Upon graduation from Dartmouth, Ed entered the U.S. Navy Officers Candidate Program and was commissioned as an Ensign in February 1964. On active duty, he served as a surface warfare officer line conning officer on two ships, USS Jerome County (LST-848) and USS Soley (DD-707).

After leaving active duty in 1967, Ed attended the University of Georgia School of Law where he served on the editorial board of the Georgia Law Review.

From 1970-2018, Ed was a member of the Savannah law firm, Bouhan, Williams & Levy—later, Bouhan Falligant. His specialty was admiralty and maritime law. As a partner in the firm, he attributed much of his success in maritime law to his seagoing service.

Ed was always involved in sports, playing competitive tennis and lacrosse in his younger years, and coaching youth soccer for nearly ten years. While in Savannah, he remained active with the Savannah Navy League serving as the Judge Advocate and Ship Liaison Officer.

Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Kay Schuller Robb. Ed is survived by his three sons and their spouses David C. Robb (Cara), Clemson, SC; Charles S. Robb (Yumi), Higashi-Matsushima, Japan; and Michael A. Robb (Sara), Greenville, SC as well as seven grandchildren: Sanders Gaines, Crawford, Celia Jane, Athens, Ash, Emily and Ethan Robb.

Graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Navy League of the United States at navyleague.org.

I'm so glad I got to know Ed. He was a great man and we enjoyed each other's company. Rest in peace, Ed. I will miss you, and the men at Creekside will miss you too.

Ed Robb was a great friend and companion for me. He was a very adept attorney, taking time to build great relations with LLoyds of London, the worlds insurance agency of choice for ships. Ed also led on the Powell Duffryn explosion legal case in Savannah, cementing his reputation as the man to go to for legal cases on the river. Ed was devoted to the Navy league and organized many events for visiting ships, including soccer games. Ed was devoted to his wife Kay, affectionately called Laura Bush, due to her striking resemblance to the former first lady. He was very proud of his son David, his outstanding service in the USN meant much to him in our conversations. Ed had another son Micheal who was adept at soccer & a third son Charles who liked rocks. Ed's great love was coaching soccer in his later years, he devoted many years to his beloved Rovers, visiting their spiritual home in Blackburn Lancashire. Ed achieved the prestigious USSF C soccer license and was one of very few people of his age to attempt the USSF B unsuccessfully. Ed was always good company, quick witted, generous with his time and always good company. I have indulged myself with this note as his obituary is so scarce and not published in the Savannah paper. I am sure Ed would have drawn a good crowd to his funeral. Fair winds and following seas sir, your watch is done.
