Celebrating the life of
Robert Murphy
July 22, 1926 - October 06, 2024
Robert Murphy of Savannah, GA passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care on October 6 surrounded by family and friends.
Bob was born in New Bedford, MA on July 22,1926. After graduating from Coyle High School, he joined the Army Air Force with the intention of becoming a pilot. World War II ended and Bob’s plans changed. He entered Providence College, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Business Management. While attending college, he married Clio (Pat) E. Lupo.
After college, Bob worked in sales at Narragansett Brewing Company in Cranston, RI. His success at Narragansett led to operating his own beverage distributorship until retirement in 1981.
Bob was an avid skier and a member of the Penguin Ski Club in Lincoln, NH. However, Bob’s true passion was boating, owning a number of boats over the years. Upon retirement, Bob and Pat gave up winters and lived on their diesel trawler for two winters in Florida. They never saw a snowflake again.
After a few years in Florida, Bob settled at The Landings in Savannah in 1991 and immediately ingrained himself in the community through his new neighbors, golf, boating, going to the dog park and using his handyman skills to help out a friend.
Bob leaves his daughter Kathleen Price of Rehoboth Beach, DE, his son Daniel Murphy (Connie Wright) of Hopkinton, MA, his companion Beverly Taylor of Savannah, and his faithful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Winston.
A funeral mass will be held at St. James the Less Catholic Church on October 14 at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to the Humane Society for Greater Savannah.
