Celebrating the life of

Clark Weldon Smith

December 09, 1948 - September 27, 2024

Clark Weldon Smith

Clark Weldon Smith peacefully sailed to heaven on September 27, 2024, at the age of 75, attended by his wife and daughter at their home in Savannah, GA.

Born on December 9, 1948, in Decatur, GA, Clark graduated from Gainesville High School and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech, where he was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha.

In his freshman year, he met Carol Sue Rogers on a blind date. He was smitten by her playful wit, propensity to pack a picnic, and willingness to rappel down mountainsides. Likewise, she was struck by his subtle sense of humor, readiness to leap into joyous buck dancing antics, and the dedication and leadership he brought to everything he did. Carol and Clark married in 1970, the beginning of a 54-year adventure.

Clark's rewarding career with General Electric took them across the U.S. and to Singapore for three years, where he later said the Lord used their time in Asia to teach them cross-cultural relations. In 1989, they settled in Savannah, GA, where Clark and Carol opened a Fortune Personnel Consultants franchise, recruiting in manufacturing nationwide and in Latin America. Clark was also deeply committed to serving his community and his church, Christ Church Anglican.

In 2007, they answered a call to full-time missions and founded E412 Ministries, serving in 23 countries and on U.S. mission boards. Between missions, Clark loved revisiting the mountains of his childhood by spending cherished time with family at a cabin on Lake Glenville in North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Weldon Smith; mother, Novena Harrison Smith; and sister, Wendy Smith Hughes.

Clark is survived by his loving wife Carol Rogers Smith; his daughter, Georgeanna Reese Connors; son-in-law, Mike; and grandsons, Reese and Riley, all of Asheville, NC. He will live on as an inspiration to all who knew him.

Contributions may be made to The Dive ministry (thedivesavannah.com) or New Wineskins (newwineskins.org/give).

A service will be held on Friday, October 4, at 11:00 AM at Christ Church Anglican, 2020 Bull Street, Savannah, GA, and livestreamed on YouTube (youtube.com/@christchurchanglicansavann2661).

We both graduated from GHS in 1966 with Clark. Johnny began lst grade with him at Candler Street Elementary. While Johnny always knew Clark, I did not until high school. He was so extremely smart and intelligent, I was never in his classes. I never knew him personally. I will however, say that Clark was one of the good guys. He was so very kind and caring. He was a person of faith, and you knew he was a special young man. No surprises as we have aged that we have read and kept up through social media the wonderful things he has done. God will be with you all, because you know where he is and that he lived an exemplary life. As a family you are blessed. A

I was saddened to hear of Clark’s diagnosis in June and I knew it was just a short period of time before he enjoyed the pleasures of heaven and a life well lived in service to our Lord and Saviour. When our daughter moved to Savannah and knew no one, Clark and Carol ministered to her. She knew no one but knew that she was where God wanted her as she anticipated her new adventure. The Smiths poured into her and to her now young family. They poured into our family which seemed effortless and Clark was always so encouraging whenever we came for a visit. I’m certain he has heard the words “well done, good and faithful servant”. Earth’s loss is indeed Heaven’s gain. My prayers are with Carol and the family and the ministries of which they were so much a part.

THE DEATH OF CLARK SMITH ODEKE The Bishop of Church of Uganda Diocese of Soroti regrets to announce to you the sad news of the passing to glory of Mr Clark Smith Odeke from Christ's Church Savannah USA. Clark Smith is the husband to Carol Smith and they been partners with the Diocese of Soroti in Mission, training and relief support for over 20 years now. They used to visit the Diocese every year and led a three days conference for all Lay Readers in March this year at the widows hall. He was a humble, godly and spirit filled Man who has passion and zeal to reach the unreached with the good news of salvation. Together with his wife Carol, they have been moving from country to country sharing the love of Christ and praying for healing and restoration of broken lives. Clark and Carol Smith are the founders of E412 Ministries. Since the ministry was launched in 2008, they have ministered in 23 countries leading over 90 missions. Early this year he was diagnosed with cancer and it is what has killed him. We send our deepest condolences to Mama Carol and the family, the team at E412 Ministries, members of Christ Church Savannah and Christians in the different countries and churches that have ministered in. You have fought a good fight, completed your race and kept the faith. Rest in glory Papa Clark and take heart and be strong and courageous Mama Carol. *By: Rev Canon Samuel Ediau Diocesan Secretary CoU Diocese of Soroti*

I’m very saddened to hear the demise of my brother in Christ (Clark). May the Almighty God stand with you during this difficult time. Though Clark is not here physically with, we shall meet him in heaven when our physical bodies are no more. We have lost on Earth indeed but Heaven gained. My prayers are with Carol and the family and the ministries of which they were so much in. May God rest his soul in peace.
