Celebrating the life of

Elaine Everette Simmons

January 06, 1943 - September 27, 2024

Elaine Everette Simmons

Elaine Everette Simmons, 81, died peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Elaine was born in Savannah, GA, daughter of the late Samuel and Katherine Everette. In 1963, Elaine married Elliott B. Simmons, Jr. of Savannah, GA.  They have three children.

Elaine graduated from Savannah High School in 1960.  Following graduation, she went to work for Lynes Realty Company where she met her future husband, Elliott.  In addition, Elaine and her mother successfully operated a catering business for many years.

Elaine was an avid tennis player and played on a team for many years at the Savannah Yacht Club.  She was also a dedicated member of The Junior League of Savannah where she proudly contributed by typing and editing the Savannah Style cookbook. She was a longtime, faithful member of Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church where she loved her church family.  Elaine was in several bridge clubs, playing regularly with her friends three to four times per week.

She cherished the company of her loved ones and found great joy in hosting gatherings. The holidays were particularly special occasions for her, as she loved bringing family and friends together. Her greatest pride and fulfillment came from her roles as a mother and grandmother.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Elliott B. Simmons, Jr. of 58 years.  She is survived by daughter, Leslie Stroop (Scott) and their children Samuel, Bennett and Emma; son, Michael (Stephanie) and their children Griffin and Andrew; son, Stephen (Ally) and their children Elizabeth and Anna; her brothers Marvin (Sandy) and Robert (Suzanne) as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church, 450 N Cromwell Road, Savannah, Georgia 31410.

The family will receive friends at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel this Thursday, October 3rd from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 4th, at Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church with interment in the church memorial garden.

I am so sorry for your loss. She is a woman who remains such a force of energy and motherliness of my earliest years and a great friend to my mother. We all shared a nanny (Nettie) and so many amazing memories as neighboring families. She will be greatly missed.

Man oh man, I just heard the passing of your mother, my friend Elaine, so sorry! Luckily I got to see and talk to her when we both had appointments at the Wound Care Center a couple of times. While we were in the waiting room, we started reminiscing about times at the club, and we just laughed together about our selves and other people, it was fun.I adored your mothers character, she was a Southern Lady.I’ll miss her in the waiting room, Billy
