Reginald Rea Walters
Reginald Rea (Reg) Walters, 92, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia.
He was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to Falls Church, Virginia where he met and married Patricia Wadlow. They were married for 64 years. Reg graduated from the University of Virginia in 1953 with a degree in Architecture. He then received his master’s in city planning from Georgia Tech in 1956. Reg and Pat moved to Savannah where they had two daughters, Cheryl Lynn and Terri Rae. They moved to Miami in 1959 where Reg worked for and became the Director of Metropolitan Dade County Planning Department. He retired in 1992 after 33 years of service. Reg was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for over 65 years, serving at West Flagler Park Baptist in Miami, Florida and Skidaway Island Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Edith Walters. Surviving are his daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Rogers of Brooklet, and daughter, Terri (Jack) of Hinesville, GA, and a brother, Neal (Betty) Walters of Durham, N.C. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held Friday, August 16, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Skidaway Island Baptist Church.
The Funeral Service to honor his life will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Skidaway Island Baptist Church, 2 Westridge Road, Savannah, GA 31411.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
So sorry to learn of Reg’s passing. He was such a great person and Biblical scholar ……As well as a dedicated Bible teacher. Many will remember his terrific Sunday School class.

Reg was an amazing man. His knowledge and the detailed maps he drew when teaching our Joy Sunday School class were awesome! Gordon and I will miss him but knowing I can praise the Lord for bringing him into our lives helps my heart heal.
