Verna attended Clayton High School before going to work for the County Courthouse and then Texas Instruments. Verna was a loving and hard-working independent woman. She tended to her son, Anthony ‘Tony’ Berry after a traumatic car accident and her husband, Cleborn ‘Cy’ Berry during his last years of life. Verna had a big heart for her family and always took it upon herself to provide support and care whenever possible. Verna was a ‘Jane of all trades’ from cooking in the kitchen to sewing clothes. Often getting requests for her baked goods and expert needle work. She enjoyed working a good puzzle and playing a fun game of Gin Rummy surrounded by those she loved. Verna not only took care of her children, but generations of dogs and cats that entered her home. She was an avid animal lover and treated them all like royalty. Verna was a traveler at heart, she enjoyed going on trips and exploring different states, collecting rocks along the way. She lived through tremendous historical experiences in her 96 years of life, from the Great Depression to COVID. Always eager to adapt along the way but never lose sight of where she came from.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Cleborn ‘Cy’ Berry, her son, Anthony Berry, her grandson Froston Back, her sisters, Clessie Monroe, Dessie Locke, Vaunita Buchholz, Lena Lawless, her brothers, Moody Wade, Thomas Wade, and her parents Lawrence and Effie Wade.
