Celebrating the life of
Barry A. Brown
Passed away on August 07, 2024
Barry A. Brown, 69, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Memorial University Medical Center.
The Savannah native was born on November 6, 1954 to the late Henry J. and Bernardine Osbourne Brown. Barry was a longtime resident of Tybee Island. He graduated from Savannah High School and dedicated over 20 years to the City of Tybee, serving on the Planning Commission, City Council, and as Mayor Pro Tem. He was also a committed member of the Marine Rescue Squadron for over 25 years and belonged to the American Legion Post 154. Professionally, Barry was the proud owner and operator of Barry A. Brown Co. Inc.
Barry’s dry sense of humor made him beloved by all. His family was the most important thing in his life; his greatest treasures were his grandchildren. Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching Guy Fieri. He never met a stranger and loved helping others. His kindness was boundless.
In addition to his parents, Barry was predeceased by his loving daughter, Lauren; and a sister, Jerrie.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Sundra (Sunni) Brown; son, Brandon Brown; four grandchildren, Colby, Tyler, Brayden, and Phoenix Brown; two brothers, William “Bubba” Brown (Dee), Ronnie Brown (Connie); a sister, Cathy Brown; his fur-baby, Georgie, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will dearly miss him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. The funeral service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Patrick J. O’Brien officiating. The burial will be in Greenwich Cemetery.

Dear Sunni and Family, I send my deepest condolences to you all. I know what a huge loss Barry's passing is and my heart aches for all of you. I had the pleasure of working with Barry while on the Beach Task Force and again and more directly on the Board of TIMSF as we raised funds for and then built the new Center. Barry became a our biggest supporter and helped us navigate the stages of making that Center a reality. His knowledge of the construction business was immeasurably beneficial but it was his calmness when all else seemed to be swirling in chaos around us that his steady hand and wise council helped us the most. He was the embodiment of the descriptor salt-of-the-earth. In the process he became a treasured friend. He will always hold a grateful place in my heart.

Glenda and I offer our sincere condolences to Sunni and all the Brown Family during this difficult time. Barry was our trusted advisor with regards to our home renovation and expansion projects for many years. He never let us down with his advice and craftsmanship. Tybee certainly benefited from his years in community service. Unfortunately I have a doctor’s appointment in the morning and will be unable to attend his service at the Wilmington Island Fox & Weeks Chapel. Know that Barry will be in our thoughts and prayers.
