Gilbert Edward McMahon, III
August 12, 1944 - January 29, 2018
Bronze Star and Purple Heart Recipient
Gilbert Edward McMahon III of Wilmington Island, formerly of West Hartford, CT. and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands passed away on January 29, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer. Gil is predeceased by his parents Gilbert Edward McMahon Jr., Agnes McMahon Fatka and Eric Fatka, his son David McMahon and his brother Paul Fatka.
He is survived by his wife MaryEllen McMahon (Colli), his beloved daughter Kate Judith McMahon, his eldest son Jon McMahon and four grandchildren Megan, Avalon, Hunter and Sophia.
While serving his country in Vietnam Gil earned the Gallantry Cross, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and The Air Medal. Gil was so proud to have served his beloved country.
Funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 2nd, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Tybee Island, GA., burial will be Monday, February 5th, 2018 at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC with an Honors ceremony at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Memorial Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or St. Joseph Indian School, 1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325.

Dear Gil's family, the last time I spoke with Gil was in November. I remember him from high school and graduated with him. Our class meets once a month for lunch and it was nice that he was able to make it twice to our luncheons. Will miss him. Please accept my deepest condolences.
