I am so sorry to hear of Manny’s passing. He was such a good man and friend. He and my son, Drew, served in the USMC together. Manny stayed at Drew’s hospital bedside until we could fly out to California, 24 hours later, after he was involved in a training accident at Camp Pendleton in 2015. It meant so much to us to know Manny was there until we could get there. They have stayed in contact since getting out of the USMC. Drew was there for Manny’s wedding in July. From him coming to Iowa and spending the summer with my brother and I. We were always doing something, outside swimming or surfing power wheels down fejuvary hill. Manny was an amazing man. It’s no surprise, by the way this man lived, that he touched the lives of many. My coworkers and I had the privilege of working with Manny. He made every shift a little more bearable and, for sure, made life a little brighter. He’d work night shift and inspire the whole team to do workouts, helping guys train to pass PFTs, to be healthy, or to just go through a crazy hard workout for the heck of it. His sense of humor was exceptional, always finding a way to make us laugh even when not trying. For me, he was an inspiration. Manny led by example, motivating me and inspiring me to aim higher in life and to believe in myself again. He talked to me for hours at work, giving me advice at a time that I thought my path was very unclear. He taught me about many inspirational figures in history but he will stay alive in my memories as such an inspirational figure in my life. Kat, times of loss are hard. Just know, you are not alone. Give yourself the time to process this, to mourn, but also I encourage you to hold your head high knowing your husband gave so much. He has embedded reminders in our everyday lives to his greatness. Through it all, Manny is a hero that served his country with exceptional status, lived his life to the fullest, and filled so many along the way with love and inspiration. He’s left a legacy that will be continued and remembered through time. Be proud of that! We are all here for you!
