Celebrating the life of

Lance Jack Hinely "Jimmy"

Passed away on April 03, 2024

Lance Jack Hinely

Lance Jack Hinely (Jimmy), 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.  Lance was born in Savannah, one of four sons of John Ralston Hinely, and Ila Kessler Hinley.  He had three brothers, John D. Hinely, Bernard R. Hinely, and William K. Hinely.  Lance leaves behind many nieces and nephews, JoBeth Fuller, Pam Waters, Steve Hinely, Diane Brown, Cathy Rogers, Ronnie Hinely, Denise Morris, Ricky Hinely, Peggy Mattie, and Debby Goldberg, also several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was a longtime and very active member of Robert McIntyre Methodist Church.  He retired after working many years at Roger Wood and how he loved to tell the stories about his wonderful years working for them.  He loved shopping for antiques and collectibles and enjoyed gathering every morning with his friends at Sunny Side Up for breakfast.  He was truly a humble man with a heart of gold.  He absolutely adored his family.  We always sat down to listen to his stories of him growing up and he would always stress the love he had for family.  He also had a love for stray kittens/cats.  He has adopted about two dozen in the past few years and would call them his babies.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Julio Cortes, Riverview Rehabilitation, and Hearth Hospice for their dedication to his well-being.

A visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel. A Graveside Service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3608 Midland Road
Guyton, Georgia 31312 United States.

A candle has been lit!

This week we lost Uncle Jimmy, someone dear to our hearts. The emptiness of his passing is painful, but we find comfort in the good memories he left behind. We will miss our lunch and breakfast get togethers, sharing memories and the tales of the mischief all you boys would get into on Jefferson Street in Savannah. Grandma and Granddaddy had their hands full with 4 boys to raise, but I think they did a pretty good job. We loved your sense of humor, how you made us laugh. Such as when you were telling people that Jo Beth (neice) was your wife, the looks you would get from people for having a young wife, and embarrassing Jo Beth. Uncle Jimmy was not just an uncle, but he helped filled the hole in our heart left behind when our father passed, now that hole has gotten larger. I love thinking back when were we children. We would go every other weekend to see him and Grandma Hinely, how he made us kids feel special. The vacations he took me and Cathy on with him and Grandma Hinely is something we will remember forever. His smile was a ray of sunshine and his heart was of gold. He would give anybody the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He did not have a lot of worldly possessions in life, but he had something more precious, the love of his family and friends and the love for his Savior. He will be deeply missed, but will see him again one day.

Uncle jimmy, where do I begin…you were always a staple in my life. From day one Pepa led the way, but there you were. You always kept things interesting, and definitely made sure we had a smile on our face. I’ve never pictured a world were you both were not here, and as I write this, things do not get easier. I find comfort in the fact that you were a part of not only my life, but my girls lives as well. Man, how they made you smile. I look forward to the day that we can go to breakfast again. Until then, I love you!

Uncle Jimmy was special to us. We will miss him dearly. We will miss his stories and his sweet smile! Now he is joined with our sweet and glorious Savior and is surrounded by family! Oh what a great day that must be! My heart will heal in time and life will go on! Just knowing we will see you again one day gives me comfort! Love and miss you!

We here at Riverview Health and Rehab send our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Hinely.

I regret not seeing this announcement earlier so that I could have paid my respects. Jack, or "Smiling Jack" as we referred to him, was a wonderful, quiet, consistent, employee of Roger Wood Foods for many years. He helped to teach me the finer points of stuffing sausage, wieners and bologna and about much of the equipment utilized in the process. The image posted here is also in our museum hallway as a reminder of those that helped create the culture of the company. He and the team were here every morning at 530 am until whenever the job was finished; helping to build the bedrock that would later grow into the #1 brand in the southeast. Many thanks to Smiling Jack and God bless the family in this time of reflection of his life.
