Celebrating the life of
Edward G. Coleman, Jr.
March 17, 1958 - March 19, 2024
Edward Gus Coleman, Jr., affectionately known as “Edward G”, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away on March 19, 2024.
The son of Charlesetta Coleman and the late Edward Gus Coleman, Sr., Edward was born March 17, 1958, and raised in Savannah, Ga. He attended the Savannah Chatham County Public School System and graduated from Windsor Forest High School in 1977.
In 1978, Edward enlisted in the United States Army and valued this service highly, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class - Drill Sergeant. He served his country with honor and bravery, demonstrating unwavering dedication during his time in the military. His selflessness and courage inspired all who knew him.
During his military career, Edward developed lifelong relationships with fellow soldiers all over the world including Korea, Germany, Texas, Georgia, California, Missouri, and Virginia. He earned many skillset certificates from computer technology to leadership training and was awarded several medals and honors.
In 1998, upon retirement in Fort Hood, Texas, Edward decided to relocate back to his roots in Savannah, GA, where he brought his skills to the local U.S. Postal Service and Comdoc Business Solutions, before he ultimately retired for good.
Off the battlefield, Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and cousin, prioritizing his family above all else. He was a pillar of strength, offering guidance, love, and support to his children throughout their lives.
Destiny would have it that he met the love of his life, Maxine Coleman, in 1992 during his military tenure in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. It was love at first sight and they made a lifelong vow to their union of 32 years, which was upheld until his very last breath.
In addition to his wife and mother previously mentioned, Edward is also survived by his children: Antwan [Veda] of Savannah, Andre [Coris] of Savannah, Brandon [Erica] of Jonesboro AR, Mildred of Wynne AR, Shadavia, Andrea, and Tuesday (all of Savannah). Additionally, Edward will be sorely missed by his grandchildren: Marquis, Tevin, Jenyla, Nadia, Saadique, Tyler, Twan’dasia, Londyn, Logan, Bryce, Owen, Andreya, Chanlor, Braylyn, Leilani, Andre, Liam, and Ivy. Lastly, Edward will be forever remembered by his sisters: Regina [Phillip] and Debbie, sisters-in-law: Cynthia, Joann, Brenda, and Lawanda (all of Arkansas) brothers-in-law: Johnny [Betty], Ricky, Randy (all of Arkansas), and Courtney (of Texas) a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, Allen, Steve and Denesen (special cousins), Arthur (best friend), Derick (a special son), Zhylebria (a special granddaughter), and his furry companion, Little. In addition to his late father, Edward was preceded in death by his youngest son, Andrew, and granddaughter Twan’tasia.
A visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00, Wednesday, March 27, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11:00, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel. Interment will follow with military honors at 2:00, at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.

I can't seem to find the words to express how broken my heart is because this man is the epitome of great! I couldn't ask for a better dad - a better example of a man - a better role model - a better soul mate to my mom. I'll miss our long conversations, all the holidays and special occasions we celebrated, the birthday we share, Sunday dinners, and most importantly the warmest smile in the world. No matter what the day dealt him, I was always greeted with a big smile and "hey baby girl"! Grief comes in many forms but I can truly say for every tear I cry, I have 10 great memories that I'll forever cherish! CHEERS TO THE LAST BIRTHDAY WE CELEBRATED TOGETHER!

Daddy, Words cannot describe the loss I feel saying farewell to you, But heaven chose to give you wings and now it’s time you flew. I wish that we could have more time, that God had let you stay. Forever would not be long enough but I would take one day. I wish I had just one more chance to see that tender smile, to laugh with you again my dad just for a little while. Gone too soon, but not forgotten, forever you will remain, my guiding light, my shining star, until I see your face again! Love your daughter Renee
