Celebrating the life of
William "Bill" Lawton Patterson
May 25, 1939 - November 14, 2019
William (Bill) Lawton Patterson, 80, of Savannah, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019, at home after a long illness. Mr. Patterson was born May 25, 1939 in Meinhart, GA, the son of the late Margaret and James Patterson. He was a graduate of Savannah High School (’57) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (’63). Mr. Patterson worked as a mechanical engineer for over forty years, including tenures at Newport News Shipbuilding Co., Union Camp, and Porter-Huggins Industrial Contracting Co, prior to retiring from Kerr-McGee in 2003.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by four of his five siblings; James Patterson, Palmer Patterson, Florence Daugherty, and Margaret Moffatt. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Glenda Nelms Patterson; three children, Ann Daiss, Laura Moon (Chris), and Jim Patterson (Katy); six grandchildren, Jonah and Ellen Daiss, Adam and Sarah Moon, and Claire and Maggie Patterson; his sister, Maner Kellam (Chuck); and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 18, 2019, at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah, GA 31406. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either The Christ Child’s Nest (Guatemala orphanage) c/o Isle of Hope United Methodist Church or America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, 2501 E. President Street, Savannah, GA 31404-1101.
