Diane Smith Gonzalez

April 01, 1956 - December 20, 2023

Diane Smith Gonzalez

Diane Smith Gonzalez passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The Savannah native was born on April 1, 1956 to the late Ernest F. Smith, Jr. and Lillian King Smith. Diane attended Windsor Forest High School. She was a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school bus driver for Bible Baptist Church in Gary, IN. Diane later moved to the Raleigh/Durham, NC area where she worked briefly in Research Triangle Park as an assistant in training with LabCorp Pharmaceutical Company. Upon returning to her home in Savannah, Diane worked at Hirano’s Japanese Restaurant on Habersham Street for several years.

Diane loved our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Diane never met a stranger, she enjoyed laughing, singing, and listening to music. She loved her cats, and she loved football, GO DAWGS! Her passion was spending time with her family. Diane was loved by all who knew her beautiful soul and caring heart of gold, and she will be greatly missed by all those that knew her.

In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded by her husband, Jorge Gonzalez; and her eldest son, Jason Scott Wood.

Surviving are two sons Steven and Kevin Wood, of Charlotte NC; three brothers, Ernest F. (Snuffy) Smith III (Ginger) of Savannah and Don. K. Smith of Savannah and Prichardville, SC; Michael J. “Smitty” Smith (Dorinda) of Savannah and Ft. Myers/Cape Coral, FL; as well as several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and Cousins.

Dear Snuffy and Ginger, I was so sad to read about your sister. I remember her from many years ago. She is such a beautiful girl and it sounds as if she has had such sadness in her life losing her husband and her son. My heart goes out to you as you go through this difficult time. I will keep you in my prayers. Love, Lisa
