Celebrating the life of

Edgar J. Field

January 05, 1940 - December 09, 2023

Edgar J. Field

Edgar J. Field, only child of Winifred and Edgar J. Field Sr. was born January 5, 1940 in London, England. Ed was raised and educated in the United Kingdom and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1978. He graduated from Highbury County Grammar School for Boys and Norwood Tech in London. In 1965 he joined the Colgate-Palmolive Company where he enjoyed a successful career spanning 31 years. As President of the International Business Development Group, he travelled extensively and visited over 100 countries.

Ed met his wife, Maureen (Mo) while living in Barbados. They were married in 1967 and had just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on November 25th. Son Edgar Jr and daughter Samantha Jane were both born in Jamaica and then the family lived in various countries including Thailand and the Philippines. The family spent 18 years in Greenwich, CT before Ed and Mo retired to Savannah in 1994.

In Savannah, Ed served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army for several years and the Finance Committee of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, where he was a member for almost 30 years. His last significant event was joining First Baptist Church in downtown Savannah in October of this year.

Ed was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years of deep-sea fishing on his boat, the White Knight. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends. While living at the Landings he experienced 4 holes-in-one!

Ed loved his family and pets and adored his four grandchildren: Ethan, Ariana, Gavin and Erin. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mo, his children Ed Jr. (Robyn Rinello) and Samantha Lambert (Paul), grandchildren Ethan (Diana) and Ariana Field, Gavin and Erin Lambert, and new great-grandson Troy Anderson Field. He leaves behind his furry companions, Lulu Belle and Stu.

For many years, Ed battled a rare form of Vasculitis, which resulted in two open heart surgeries and three strokes, all of which he eventually overcame. Special thanks to his amazing team of doctors led by Nephrologist Dr. Nizar Eskandar, Primary Care Dr. Bhavesh Patel and Cardiologist Dr. Claude Su who together were successful in giving Ed 14 extra years. Additionally, the family would like to thank the team at St. Joseph’s hospital, the Cardiac Rehab at Candler Hospital, and the lovely and professional ladies at Bridge Hospice.

Ed will be remembered for his love of animals and his strong support for those in need. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to The Vasculitis Foundation (vasculitisfoundation.org) or Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16th from 3-5pm at Fox and Weeks. Burial will be private.

Dear Field Family, I knew Eddie and Janie from the school bus to and from WJHS. And then my best friend Robyn married her long-time love, Ed! So although I never knew Big Ed, I know he has a great family, and I'm so sorry for your loss. With love and sympathy, Marne D.
