Fox & Weeks presents York Children's Foundation grant to Union Mission
SAVANNAH – Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors presented a York Children's Foundation grant in the amount of $750 to the Magdalene Project at Union Mission in August.
The Magdalene Project is a 22-bed shelter for women and children that offers immediate temporary housing for those in the most need and provides necessary school supplies for children in need. Each time a family purchases a casket at Fox & Weeks, a portion of the cost is donated to the York Children’s Foundation in the name of the deceased and the accumulated funds are distributed quarterly to area non-profits chosen through an application process.
The York Children’s Foundation is affiliated with the Mathews International Corporation casket division and has delivered more than $2 million in grants throughout the country since its introduction in the early 1990s. Since beginning its participation in the York Children’s Foundation program in 2012, Fox & Weeks has awarded nearly $10,000 in grants to charitable organizations in the area dedicated to supporting children and children’s causes.
"The money Union Mission received from Fox & Weeks and the York Children's Foundation will be used to supply the homeless children that we serve with clothing and school supplies," said Union Mission Emergency Services Manager Jeanette Ortiz-Andreou. "We at Magdalene Project want to ensure that our homeless children are prepared and have the needed supplies so that they may be successful in school. We thank Fox & Weeks for this donation."
Fox & Weeks is the only funeral home in the area actively participating in the York Children’s Foundation program. The purpose of the York Children’s Foundation is to award grants to non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting children, and any organization in the Coastal Empire with the primary purpose of providing for children’s needs is eligible to apply for a York Children’s Foundation grant.
To qualify for a York Children’s Foundation grant through Fox & Weeks, an application must be submitted and an organization’s activities must be primarily directed towards the welfare and benefit of children.
