Fox & Weeks present York Children's Foundation grant to The Fresh Air Home

Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors was honored to present a York Children’s Foundation grant in the amount of $800 to The Fresh Air Home on Tybee Island in April. The Fresh Air Home is a Savannah tradition dating back to 1897 and remains dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged youth. Every summer, The Fresh Air Home opens its doors to hundreds of Savannah area children with the mission of improving the health of the children, building character and helping them grow into better men and women – both physically and morally. The Fresh Air Home is a non-profit organization operated and maintained by the Froebel Circle, a group of 50 dedicated women who are committed to serving God’s children. The Fresh Air Home is opened for eight weeks during the summer months, and each child is able to spend 11 days enjoying the ocean, salt air, playing on the beach and supervision by counselors of strong character. The maximum capacity of the Home at one time is 92 children, and the daily program at The Fresh Air Home includes play on the beach, supervised games on the camp grounds, crafts, music activities, Bible stories, and field trips. The purpose of the York Children’s Foundation is to award grants to non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting children, and any organization in the Coastal Empire with the primary purpose of providing for children’s needs is eligible to apply for a York Children’s Foundation grant. Fox & Weeks is the only funeral home in the area actively participating in the York Children’s Foundation program and has now distributed thousands of dollars to local non-profits serving children’s needs since 2012. Each time a family purchases a casket at Fox & Weeks, a portion of the cost is donated to the York Children’s Foundation in the name of the deceased and the accumulated funds are distributed quarterly to area non-profits chosen through an application process. The York Children’s Foundation is affiliated with the Mathews International Corporation casket division and has delivered millions of dollars in grants throughout the country since its introduction in the early 1990s. To qualify for a York Children’s Foundation grant through Fox & Weeks, an application must be submitted and an organization’s activities must be primarily directed towards the welfare and benefit of children.
