Raymond Robert Lewis, 84, passed away at his Wilmington Island home during the night of November 12, 2017. One of 12 children, Ray was born to the late William Anthony and Margaret McKenna Lewis in Hulmeville, Pennsylvania, on January 23, 1933 but moved to Savannah at a very young age. Ray attended Cathedral Day School but left formal education early in life to work with his father learning the construction trade. Ray eventually founded his own Savannah business, R. R. Lewis Construction Company, and he worked as a builder, developer, and rental property proprietor for many years. Ray Lewis was a long-term member of Nativity of Our Lord Church and St. Peter the Apostle Parish. Ray made certain that all four of his children pursued good Christian lives and higher education. Ray was known for his strength, work ethic, kindness, sense of humor, and his never fading devotion to Arlene, his wife of 55 years.

Surviving family includes: Ray’s wife, Arlene Lewis, 2 siblings, Charles “Lindy” Lewis and Richard “Dickey” Lewis both of Savannah, four children and spouses, Toni McCullough, M.D. [Brent] of Savannah, Donna Adams [Wade] of Duluth, GA, Robert Lewis, M.D. [Nancy] of Columbus, GA, and Chris Lewis [Kathleen] of Lewisville, NC, 10 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

On Friday, December 1, 2017, the family will receive friends at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, from 3 to 4 PM followed by a Memorial Service led by Father Patrick O’Brien at 4 PM.
