My sincerest condolences. At times such as these we think about our own families and wonder if we are spending as much time with them or talking to them as much as we should be. It is clear to me that this man was loved very much by his family.

Raymond “Ray” Douglas Dean, 69, of Savannah, Georgia, died on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Candler Hospital.

Ray was born July 27, 1947 at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida, to parents Douglas and Theresa Dean. His family later moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Pittsfield High School, Class of 1965.

He went on to enlist in the United States Navy in July, 1965 and served as an Airframe Systems Organizational Technician attached to Patrol Squadron 11, Detachment 30, NAS Brunswick, Maine. He remembered his time in service fondly, and was particularly proud of an assignment during which he flew over the North Pole.

After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1971, Ray moved to Albany, New York, where he worked for Montgomery Ward & Co. until 1979. In Albany he met Carol Ann McCoy, to whom he was married on June 16, 1973.

Ray moved his young family to Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1979, and worked as a Sales Engineer for the Beloit Corporation, a manufacturer of machinery and parts for paper mills, out of their Lenox, Massachusetts warehouse. In 1995 he was promoted to head up Beloit’s Southeastern area sales operations, and had lived in Savannah ever since.

From 2006 until his passing, Ray worked as a Builder of Electronic Control Panels at Ross Systems and Controls in Savannah, an occupation he very much enjoyed.

Ray was an avid reader, and had a keen interest in history, particularly that of the World War II era, military aviation, politics, and all things nautical. He also enjoyed Flamenco, 60’s and 70’s music, and barbeque, but most of all he loved his family.

Ray is survived by his wife, Carol, of Savannah, his son Adam Dean and his wife Theresa of Savannah, his son David Dean and his wife Angela of Tybee Island, his daughter Megan Fowler and her husband Charlie of Tampa, Florida, his daughter Rebecca James of Savannah, his six grandchildren Katelyn, Emma, Anna, Liam, Natalie, and Bryar, and his sister, Laura Colvin of Richmond Massachusetts.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, Savannah.   A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 PM.

The family suggests any remembrances made in his memory be submitted to Shriner’s International and Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
