After a brief critical illness, Ray A. Miley, 94, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, January 3, 2019 surrounded by his children and under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lucille Stephens Miley, and his siblings Thomas Miley, James Miley (his twin), Edna Mize, and Sonny Mize.

Ray was born February 1, 1924, in Savannah, GA. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific in the U.S. Army form 1943-1946. After his discharge in 1946, Ray married Laura Lucille Stephens of Swainsboro and they moved to Isle of Hope in 1957, where they raised their four children. Ray worked for Union Camp for 38 years and retired as a Supervisor in the Box Plant. After retirement, ray and Lucille enjoyed many years traveling around in their Winnebago camper visiting every state in the continental U.S. Ray was a member of Isle of Hope Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon. He was also a member of the Men’s Breakfast Club where he loved to help cook and enjoyed the fellowship.

Ray is survived by his children, Tommy (Nell) Miley, Danny (Barbara) Miley, Linda (Jack) Usher, Brenda (Eddie) Boaen, his grandchildren, Bryan Miley and Ashley (James) Maddox, Daniel and Spenser Miley, Matthew (Janey) Usher, Chris, Crystal and Chad Boaen, his brother-in-law, John (Mary) Autry, his sister-in-laws, Selma Miley and Ida Miley, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will have a graveside service Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Ray will be laid to rest beside his wife of 58 years, Lucille, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice Savannah.
