To all family and friends, I am sorry for your loss. Difficult times such as these are made better when we consider Jehovah's comforting words found in the Bible.1 Corinthians 15:26 helps comfort us in knowing that God's Kingdom will bring death to it's end. This is just one of many comforting promises that Jehovah will fulfill. I hope this brings you some comfort during this difficult time.

We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad Judy. Praying that God will carry you all through this sad time. May you feel His peace that passes all understanding .... we are rejoicing for your dad’s time in heaven where there is no more pain and suffering, no more tears. But we know that leaves such a sadness among you all here,...sending love and hugs. Love, Gail and Kevin

My sincere condolences to the family, sorry for your loss. During this difficult time there is hope that soon death will be done away with. At 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verse 26 the Bible tells us that soon death will be done away with for good. That is a time we all look forward too.

MSgt. Douglas Eugene Whiteford (USAF, Ret.)

Douglas Eugene Whiteford, 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Savannah to the late Julian J. Whiteford and Nellie Whiteford Lemoine.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Stafford A. Lemoine and his sister Evelyn W. Reagan.

He joined the Air Force after graduating from Jenkins High School, where he played basketball.  Doug was assigned to Hunter AFB leaving McChord AFB in Washington. In 1965, he was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam where he served in combat duty and was exposed to Agent Orange.

After serving 22 years in the Air Force, Doug retired and moved back to Savannah.  He was a member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church and later Southside Baptist Church.

Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  His most enjoyable events were spent at home watching his beloved North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.  They loved cheering their team with their “Poppy”.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Baker Whiteford, a son Allen D. Whiteford (Jennifer) and a daughter Judy Whiteford Blackston; a grandson Joey Blackston, four granddaughters Kimberly Whiteford, Taylor Blackston, Anna Brooke Whiteford, Lauren Whiteford; one great granddaughter Alaina Lynn Whiteford and several nieces and nephews.

Doug was under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.  We would like to thank Tanesse Hendrix, Tonja McLeod and all the staff for their loving care during Doug’s last days.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Burial will be private at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glenville, Georgia where services will be conducted by Drew Corbett, Hospice Chaplain.

Remembrances may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
