I was Smittys squad leader in Germany and had the honor of deploying with him to Iraq. He always made it fun and and interesting. Never a dull moment. We know he is looking down on all of us, saying everything will be ok. We love you and will see you when it's our turn. Our deepest deepest condolences to the family.

Jacob and Johanna Fletcher, Nashville, TN

Mike, we are deeply sorry for your loss. Keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Joe & Anna Swords, Springfield, Ga

My heart hurts with and for the Smith family. My wife and I knew Graham from our time in Germany and during our deployment to Iraq. "Smitty" was a great Soldier and often spoke of his children. He had a sign made during that deployment that I proudly display to this day and every time I look at it I am reminded of him and what a great Soldier he was. Everyone with "Check Six" is saddened and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

MSG (RET) Daniel Wilson, Whitney, Texas

My deepest condolences to your family, Graham was truly a great person that I had the privilege to know

Lisa Lewis Keib, Savannah, GA

To the Smith family, My heart is full of sorrow after hearing this tragedy. I had the honor of serving with Graham in my squad. As his squad leader, Graham was a role model soldier to others as he strived for perfection on a day to day basis. We became close in our deployments as we counseled each other for support. To see Graham on our convoy briefs was for me a great relief because I knew he would not hesitate to protect us as he manned the 50cal as a gunner. Graham my brother I'll never forget you, God Bless You.

Mario Canga Sr and family, Hinesville, ga

Graham Dhu Smith, 36, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Candler Hospital.  He was born November 18, 1980, in Savannah, Georgia, and lived in Savannah for most of his life. Graham was a graduate of Windsor Forest High School, where he devoted much of his time to baseball. He also played summer baseball on the Savannah Hurricanes travel team. He then went on to play baseball at South Georgia College.

The events of 9/11 and Graham’s love for his country led him to enlist in the United States Army in 2006.  He was a patriotic and proud soldier who loved his brothers in arms.  He served three tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was medically retired in 2013.

Graham was a fitness and nutrition enthusiast, an avid hunter; he enjoyed saltwater fishing and spending time with his friends and family.  He has been repeatedly described by his fellow soldiers as being big hearted, sensitive, loyal, and one of the finest men they had the opportunity to serve with.   He was a proud father and loved his children, Hayden and Nevie, more than life itself.

Surviving are his son, Hayden Mallie Smith, and his daughter, Nevie Alane Smith; his parents Michele DiGiovanni (Mike) and Kenneth Michael Smith (Kelly McKee); sisters Alana Grosse (Drew); and Michaela DiGiovanni; brothers Jarrod Smith, Joe DiGiovanni (Jamie), and Alex Dorsey. He is also survived by several nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and countless friends and comrades.

Visitation is at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel from 5:30 - 8:00, Monday, August 14, 2017.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 15, 2017, again, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be:  Heath Denmark, Matt Lyda, John Mills, Adam Pluff, Rob Walker and Chuck Woodcock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Fisher House, https://www.fisherhouse.org.
