Niecy, www.jw.org,

Elsie Kathryn O’Reilly Sears died on October 22, 2018, at Memorial Hospital, Savannah, Georgia surrounded by her children. Elsie was born on August 17, 1922, in Philadelphia, and grew up in Amityville, Long Island. She lived most of her life in Florida before moving to Savannah in 2008, where she resided at Savannah Square. The family would like to thank her friend and caregiver, Cheryl Norton, for helping us all enjoy the last few years of her life.

Elsie graduated from Adelphi College on Long Island, New York with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and subsequently earned a Master’s degree in chemistry from Rutgers University. She worked at the University of Florida Medical Center and taught chemistry at the College of Boca Raton.

Elsie met William Sears, a Marine and aspiring archaeologist, in 1944 and they married in 1946. They both loved boating, and enjoyed being together on the water from the Great South Bay to the Florida Gulf Stream and the Bahamas. She had a wonderful life as a wife, mother, mother in law, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her long life included moments of joy and sorrow, but nothing compared to the happiness she derived from her family.

Surviving are her children Stephen and wife Barbara, Nancy and husband Karl, Amy and husband Dan, grandchildren Bill (Kimber), Katy (Patrick), Natalie (Joe), Walter (Emily), and Eric (Caitlyn), great grandchildren Camille, Michael and Landry, nephews and nieces Ed (Marianne), Sherry (Bruce), Jan (Michael) and Frank (Elaine). She was preceded in death by her husband William, her son Michael, her parents Francis and Dorothy O’Reilly, her sisters Dorothy O’Reilly and Margery Kitchen, and brother Francis O’Reilly.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 3 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 3 Westridge Road, Savannah, Georgia. A celebration of Elsie’s life will follow at the home of Amy and Dan McCormack, 212 Tomacheechee Road, Rincon Georgia. Her ashes will be scattered in the Gulf Stream to join those of her husband and son.
