Celebrating the life of

Walter B. Weil

Passed away on January 02, 2022

Walter B. Weil

Walter B. Weil, 71, died at his home on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Walter was born in Thunderbolt, GA to Frank and Selma (Sachs) Weil on March 31, 1950, and was proud to call Thunderbolt his home for his entire life.  He graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1968 and went on to receive a BA in Political Science from Georgia Southern.

In 1977, Walter married Ann Tilton of Tybee Island. He was employed by Alloy Industrial Contracting, a family away from home, for over 15 years until joining local #1475.  Walter retired from the ports in 2020 as a respected peer and mentor.

He loved everything about Savannah (and Georgia), from fishing the old bridge in Thunderbolt or crabbing on Richardson Creek, to body surfing on Tybee waves; from the Blessing of the Fleet, a slow 18 at Bacon Park, or fried chicken at Johnny Harris. He loved hunting deer in Colbert, marsh hen hunting near Little Tybee, breakfast at Larry’s, or Happy Hour at Fiddler’s & Tubby’s.

But most of all, Walter loved the time he spent with family.  Walter is preceded in death by his mother and father, and wife Ann.  He leaves behind a son, Aaron Weil (Emily) of Decatur, GA; daughter Hannah Tubbs (Ben); grandchildren Sidney Rose, Meyer, and Lucas; Twin brother and lifelong partner Willie, brother Arthur (Phyllis) Weil, sister Roxanne (Brian) Misterka, Brothers in law Paul and David (Christina) Tilton, and a vast extended family of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Though we mourn the loss of Walter, we relish in the knowledge that he’s back with his beloved wife and those that have gone before him.

A visitation will be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

A graveside service will be held the following day, Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery.

Always an extremely charitable person, Walter would love that, in lieu of flowers, you donate to the charity of your choice.
