Celebrating the life of
Diane Davis King
October 03, 1946 - March 31, 2026
Diane Davis King (formerly Canady), 79, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at East Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro, GA. She was born October 3, 1946, in Savannah to the late Willie Shep Davis and Annie Mae Mitchell. Diane graduated from Savannah High School in 1964 and later attended Armstrong State College. She worked for Savannah Foods as the Credit Manager for over 30 years. Diane attended Trinity United Methodist Church and Bible Baptist Church.
Diane had a vibrant personality and a love for life that touched everyone who knew her. She was Elvis’s number one fan and never missed a chance to enjoy his music. You could often find her laughing and spending time with her dear friends at Driftaway Cafe. During football season, she was a devoted University of Georgia fan, watching every game and keeping friends and family updated with her lively Facebook posts. She was especially proud of her grandson attending UGA and never missed an opportunity to brag about him. At family reunions, everyone looked forward to her famous banana pudding and roast, which she lovingly prepared for those she cherished most.
She was a proud member of the Altrusa Club in Savannah and the Over the Hill Sugar Club at Savannah Foods, where she built many lasting friendships. Diane cherished the lifelong bonds she formed during her years at Savannah Foods, and those friendships remained an important and joyful part of her life.
Later in life, Diane met her husband, Jim, while out with her girlfriends at Fiddler’s in Savannah. He asked her to dance, and the rest was history. They went on to share 20 wonderful years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary on October 26, 2025.
She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Deeohgee. Though she originally didn’t want a dog, she and her husband found him as a small puppy at a gas station, and she quickly fell in love and brought him home. When it came time to name him, she chose “Deeohgee,” a playful spelling of D-O-G. Diane loved him as if he were her own child, keeping him spoiled with countless toys and affection. She especially loved showing off pictures and videos of Deeohgee looking cute and learning new tricks.
More than anything, Diane cherished her family. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren and was overjoyed to welcome her great-grandson. She loved them all “to the moon and back,” a phrase that perfectly captured the depth of her devotion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gary Canady, and two sisters and their husbands, Doris and Kenneth Boice, and Lynda and Jimmy Cannon.
Surviving are her husband, James “Jim” King of Savannah; two sons, Wendell Scott Canady (Angela) of Pooler, and Wesley Steven Canady (Jennifer) of Statesboro; her sister, Mary Oglesby of Savannah; brother, William “Red” Davis (Wanda) of Ellabell; three grandchildren, Allison Canady of Pooler, Megan Sullivan (Cameron) of Savannah, and Evan Canady of Statesboro; and one great-grandson, Mason Sullivan of Savannah. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Mara Harley; stepson, Jake King; step-granddaughter, Kenzie Harley; and several nieces and nephews.
Diane’s warmth, laughter, and love will be remembered by all who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and even her spoiled little Deeohgee.
