Bobby grew up on Atlantic Avenue in Savannah, where his home was the vibrant center of neighborhood activities. Whether it was baseball, football or soccer Bobby’s enthusiasm for sports was infectious, and his home was the gathering place where teams were formed, and friendships blossomed. Bobby’s love for the outdoors was nurtured during his childhood summers at Camp Seagull in Newbern, N.C. and his time on the Vernon River at Beaulieu. Bobby loved the river, sailing and fishing and cherished the time he spent with his dear friends on boats. He also had a talent for building and fixing boats and took great pride in all his projects from sports fishing boats to restoring his grandfather’s Rangeley rowboat.

A proud Scotsman, Bobby had a deep interest in his family heritage and Scottish ancestry from a young age. He attended the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games from the age of six and went on to serve as a board member for many years. He recently received the Agnes MacRae Morton Award for his outstanding commitment to those games. His desire to preserve Sottish heritage and interest in genealogy and history drove him to join several organizations. He made invaluable contributions to the St. Andrew’s Society of Savannah where he served as President, and the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Georgia where he held roles as Governor and Deputy Governor General. He was also an active member of The Society of Cincinnati and many other heritage societies, continuing a long line of leadership within his family.

Within Savannah, Bobby was involved with the Sailing Center, 1996 Olympic Yachting and coaching of youth sports. He also played a vital role in the founding of The Savannah Bank as one of the organizers and later serving as a director of the bank.

He followed in his grandfather’s footsteps becoming the 3rd generation involved with Strachan Shipping Company. He enjoyed the shipping industry and worked with the company until it closed.

Bobby’s love for deep-sea fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family was a defining aspect of his life. He was a caring friend who would go out of his way to help anyone. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those he touched throughout his remarkable life.

The family is grateful for the loving care given by Betty Frazier and Faith Dunbar.

I grew up on 46th street a half block from Bobby's home. I was among  the many kids in the neighborhood who played football typically on Sunday afternoons and kick the can Friday or Saturday evenings with him in the Chatham Crescent parks. Among the kids were the children of Mayor Malcom McClain and those who worked at the Savannah Sugar Refinery. Bobby was an aggressive young footballer, 2 years older than me. I often got out of his way. But he was a good guy and fondly remembered.

- Robin Sherman, Savannah, GA

Bobby lived around the corner on Atlantic Avenue. Part of the 45th and 44th Street gang. He was older than I, but always found time to allow me to visit with him. He would show me his great collection of army soldiers. Everything Bobby did was big and loud and wonderful. I will think of him often as I still do his father and mother.

- John Maclean, Savannah, GA

As a fellow student with Bobby at the Blue Ridge School, I can state without any hesitancy that he was a great classmate ... diligent, dependable, and a good athlete ... a fine fellow indeed! His loyalty and support for our alma mater over the decades will not be forgotten. We classmates were blessed and privileged for him to be a friend, and may God bless him and his family. Auld lang syne.

- Edmund W. Holt, Pensacola, FL

All of my prayers and condolences to the friends and family of Bobby.
