Celebrating the life of

MaryAnn Wunsch

November 27, 1947 - April 04, 2024

MaryAnn Wunsch

MaryAnn Wunsch has passed away at the age of 76.  She was born MaryAnn Roberta Rozek on November 27, 1947 in Webster, MA and died on April 4, 2024 in Savannah, GA where she lived with her husband, Rudolf “Rudi” Wunsch.

MaryAnn is a graduate of Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA.  Shortly after graduation, she and Rudi were married.  In September of 2023, they celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.   She was a school teacher at Fort Meade, MD and in Framingham, MA.  Upon Rudi’s completion of graduate school in Boston, they made their way to Winter Haven, FL where they lived for 35 years and raised two daughters, Krisden and Emilee.

While in Winter Haven, MaryAnn was a very active member of the community.  She was the president of the Winter Haven Hospital Auxiliary for 10 years, she was an usher at the Cleveland Indians spring training camp for 15 seasons, and served as an elder at Grace Lutheran Church.  In addition to her service to the community, she also became an avid tennis player and developed a real love for world travel.  Over the years, she and Rudi spent countless days at sea aboard cruise ships.  Her adventurous spirit took her to the corners of the earth.  However, the transatlantic routes were her favorite.

In 2012, MaryAnn and Rudi said farewell to their friends in Winter Haven as they retired to The Landings on Skidaway Island, GA.  It was hardly a retirement as she took up golf, pickleball, bocce, dominoes, and mahjong.  She was actively involved with the One Hundred Children’s Foundation and was always quick to come to the aid of any and all of her neighbors.  Late in life, she became a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Savannah.

MaryAnn looked forward to visits from her grandchildren, Maier, Hadley, Booker, and Violet.  They call her Buschi.  She loved taking them on golf cart rides around the neighborhood.  She named bridges after them.

In 2021, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.  She accepted her challenge with grace and positivity.  The people charged with her care always looked forward to spending time with her.

Her friends near and far agree that MaryAnn was one of the kindest people that they knew.   She will be remembered as a fierce competitor, a compassionate friend, a kind and generous grandmother, a dedicated mother and loving wife, and as a gift to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by her adoring husband, Rudi, her daughter Krisden Jernigan and husband, Patrick of Oxford, MS, her daughter Emilee Wunsch and husband Chris Broussard of New Orleans, her grandchildren, Maier, Hadley, Booker, and Violet; and her nephew Jimmy Rohr and his wife Diane and their family of Hudson, MA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Leocadia Rozek, her sister, Carmel Rohr.

Visitation will be at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church 11500 Middleground Rd in Savannah, GA on Monday, April 8, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by Mass celebrated by Fr. Gabe Cummings.  There will be a reception following at the Wunsch residence at the Landings.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church or the One Hundred Children's Foundation.
