Celebrating the life of

Elizabeth Burris

Passed away on January 20, 2024

Elizabeth Burris

Elizabeth Kitchens Burris, 69, died peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024 surrounded by her son and her friends.

Elizabeth was born in Augusta, GA, the only child of Sidney and Maudie Kitchens. She graduated from Augusta College with an undergraduate and a Master’s degree in Psychology and received her Doctorate Degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Thomas Michael and daughter, Sarah (Abby) Burris, both of Savannah; her Godchildren Sean Michael Duncan and Matthew Mulherin Duncan, both of Augusta and Megan Elizabeth Duncan of Kississimmee, Florida, as well as a host of friends.

Elizabeth was in private practice in Savannah for many years and then continued her career at the VA Hospital in Dublin. She retired from the VA in March of 2020. Her patients in Savannah and Dublin greatly benefitted from her expertise, compassion, and commitment.

Elizabeth dedicated her life to her children; sacrificing to give them the best opportunities in life. She was always ready for an adventure, especially if it involved a trip to Disney, both land and sea, or a trip to the beach. She loved scrapbooking and crafts, many times giving her lovely creations to others. Christmas was one of her favorite times of year and she spent hours decorating her house for the season. Friendships were a source of great joy and comfort to her; her death has left a huge void in their lives.

What are the best ways to describe Elizabeth? An awesome soul, helpful, quietly caring for others, always cheering people on to do their best, ready to laugh in the worst of times and a huge animal advocate. Most of all, she was unfailing in her belief in Jesus.

A memorial service/Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11:00 am at the Community Bible Church (Video Venue), 1112 E. 69th St, Savannah GA 31404.
