Celebrating the life of

Sol Rundbaken

Passed away on December 18, 2023

Sol Rundbaken

Sol Rundbaken passed away Monday, December 18, 2023. He was 91 years old. He was one of a kind,
inspiring many. He is deeply missed.

Sol shared deep, loving relationships with his family. He was kind with a gentle disposition and a great
sense of humor. He was a lifelong learner, thoughtful, and effortlessly cool.

His accomplishments were varied and interesting.

He had a beautiful singing voice and was an accomplished actor before joining the Army. He proudly
served in the Signal Corps assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry division in Germany. Thus began a love of
radio technology, including building radios, using his Ham radio, and enjoying his favorite Old Time
Radio shows.

He earned a PhD in speech pathology and became the first executive director of the Savannah Speech
and Hearing Center, a position he held for many years. He was a speech pathologist, audiologist, and
educator, always ready to help. When Sol retired, the mayor of Savannah honored him for his service to
the community. This was on a day in May that was forever known as Sol Rundbaken Day to the family!

Sol enjoyed photography, complete with his own darkroom and eventual upgrade to digital tools. His
numerous professional quality photos adorned the walls of the family home. He loved watching a good
drama series or reading books across many genres and discussing opinions about them. He was curious,
insightful, compassionate and humble. He was a creature of habit. If you asked him if he was hungry, he
would check his watch. He loved his routines!

Sol was an avid sports fan, notably of the Georgia Bulldogs. His family and friends will miss his
enthusiastic “Go Dawgs!” and commentary on the game.

Sol is survived by his daughter Susan Young (Phil); son Michael Rundbaken (Ildiko); grandson Joey
Rundbaken; brother Lee Rundbaken (Gail); sister Rosie Levitan; and an extended family including
multiple nieces and nephews.

Sol is predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara, who he absolutely adored. They were a
beautiful and inspirational couple. What a love story! They enjoyed spending time with their beloved
family and circle of friends who felt fortunate to know and love them.

A private ceremony will be held for Sol.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center (Donations & Fundraising - Savannah Speech & amp; Hearing Center

- Bonnie Connolly, Savannah , Georgia

For many years your parents were my close friends. I have tried to contact Sol and family in the last few years to express my regrets over the death of Barbara. Apparently he was in declining health, as I feared. I can only say how sorry I am that he is gone. The memory of our friendship, the care with which Savannah Speech and Hearing aided my late mother, and the legacy left by your Dad will never be forgotten by me.

- Beth Kinstler , Tryon , NC

Our sincerest condolences to Susan, Michael and your families. It was an honor to meet your father at Phil & Susan's wedding in Savannah. We mourn your loss, knowing Sol and Barbara are reunited now for eternity. Sending you peace & love.
