Stephen D. Morrison, Sr. (“Grandaddy”), 79, died peacefully at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta on October 10, 2018.

Steve was born in Savannah on March 23, 1939, where he lived most of his life. He joined the United States Air Force in 1956, earned his high school diploma, and was honorably discharged in 1961. He started his career at American Cyanamid, working there for seven years before apprenticing as a plumber. He joined the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, where he served on the Executive Board and as Vice-President before retiring due to disability. Retirement allowed Steve to be an active member of the American Legion Post 184 and the Disabled Veterans Chapter 8, both in Savannah. While plumbing was his trade, he also enjoyed fishing, and was a shrimper for many years on the side. Steve’s friends and family will remember his determination and ironed will as he battled illness and disability, always finding a way.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Hart Morrison and Eloise Redmond née Davis, brother Samuel H. Morrison (“Sammy”), half-sister Patricia Alexander, granddaughter Rebekah Morrison, and devoted wife, Barbara Joyce Morrison (“MeMa”). He leaves behind two sons, Stephen D. Morrison, Jr. (wife, Paige) and Robert F. Morrison (wife, Kelly); grandchildren Stephen D. Morrison, III, Grace Morrison, Faith Morrison, and Zachary Morrison; and many affectionate in-laws, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

The visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel. Steve will be laid to rest alongside his wife at Bonaventure Cemetery, awaiting the resurrection.
