Salas Family, Savannah, Georgia

Dear Steve, Jim, Carl, Beth, and families, I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Weeks, even though I know he is celebrating in a reunion with your beloved mother in heaven. As everyone knows, Mr. Weeks was a kind, humble, caring gentleman who was loved by all and will be missed by all who knew him. I had the privilege of serving a short term on the SCPS Board with him, and he was always so attentive and always remembered my name. I found it astounding that a man who knew so many people would always call me by my name! It could have been because he had buried everybody in my family, I don't know! However, I do know that his genuine demeanor and sincerity were always the same. What an example he set for all of you, and you all have obviously taken heed! My prayer is that your happy memories and your Faith will comfort and strengthen you now and forever. Love and prayers to each of you, Jan Daniel Crawford

SAVANNAH - Stephen Elmo Weeks, 96, died Sunday January 17, 2016 at his home on Isle of Hope surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Savannah, Ga., on December 6, 1919, to James Elmo Weeks and Edith Doty Weeks.

He attended public schools and graduated from Savannah High School in 1940.

During high school, he and 17 friends formed a social club known as the Rufuses that would endure throughout their lives.

After high school, he attended Georgia Tech and was a member of the swim team. He joined the Army in 1942, during which time he was stationed at a German prisoner of war camp in Opelika, Alabama.

In 1942, he married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Solana, and in 1945 they returned to Savannah. He joined his father and brother in the family business, Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, upon returning to Savannah. During his career, he was a past president of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association (1956) and a member of the National Selected Morticians.

He was a lifelong and active member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church and served in various leadership positions within the church.

He was an avid boater and sailor with an encyclopedic knowledge of Savannah’s waterways who was never happier than when he was on the water and teaching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to waterski. He was a member of the Savannah Yacht Club and the Oglethorpe Club, where he had a standing lunch date with the surviving members of the Rufuses each Wednesday.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who is survived by his wife, Betty Dimmick Weeks, his children, Stephen E. Weeks, Jr. and his wife, Sharon, James Mathew Weeks and his wife, Joyce, Carl Solana Weeks, and Elizabeth Weeks Sellers; grandchildren, Matt Weeks and his wife, Krista, Holly Geriner and her husband, Clay, Stephen E.
