Ronnie Wayne Thompson passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018. He was born August 9, 1946 in Savannah, Ga to the late Robert Theron Thompson, Sr. and Audie Mae White Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was raised in Savannah, Ga and was a 1964 graduate of Savannah High School.

After joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968, Mr. Thompson served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He returned home and completed his degree in finance at Georgia State University. He was employed by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. as well as Zerox Company. The majority of his adult life was spent owning and operating the family restaurant, Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House. It was his great honor to take over the reins from his beloved grandmother-in-law, Sema M. Wilkes. For 40 years, he was an ambassador for the city of Savannah and enjoyed serving customers from all over the world as well as his many local neighbors and friends.

Survivors, all of Savannah, include his wife of forty-seven years, Marcia Martin Thompson of Savannah; his son and daughter-in-law Ryon Wesley Thompson and Lindsay Thompson; his daughter and son-in-law, Emily Wilkes Jones and Corey Jones; his grandchildren Peter and Lena Thompson and Julianna and Tyler Jones; his sister-in-law Annette Thompson; niece, Felicia L. Thompson of Ashburn, VA; nephew and his wife, Robert Theron “Trey” and Erin Thompson; his sister-in-law Judy Thompson; nephew Shelton Thompson and niece Angela Caldwell; Godchildren James Corde Wilson, III, Candler Martin Wilson and Arden Wilson Bartlett; and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his older brother Robert Theron Thompson, Jr. and younger brother Ross Shelton Thompson.

In his recent years, Ronnie could be seen downtown enjoying a good cup of coffee and conversation with his many friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his four grandchildren and relaxing at Tybee Island the special place where he met Marcia, the love of his life, at the young age of 12. He was kind, generous, hilarious and such a patriot. A forty-two year resident of Gaston Street, Mr. Thompson never missed the opportunity to enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day parade with his friends. He will be sorely missed and we will be eternally grateful for those three little words, “I love you!”

The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 12 in the fellowship hall of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm in the sanctuary of Wesley Monumental with Rev. Ben Martin officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, 429 Abercorn Street, Savannah, Ga 31401.

I'm sorry for your loss. Death is very painful to all of us. However Jehovah is the supreme comforter and offers it through his word The Bible. 1corinthians 15:26 brings comfort in knowing that soon God's kingdom will put an end to death. I hope this scripture and many like it help you to endure this difficult time
