I am so very sorry for your loss, losing a loved one in death is very painful. Please remember that Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit. Ps.34:18,19. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our heavenly Father Jehovah return your dear one Robert to you. May you also find comfort in the wonderful memories you have during those difficult times. jw.org

I had the pleasure of working with "Bob" Cassidy for many years through my position as a bank examiner with the State of Georgia. I particularly remember him at Southern Bank here in Savannah and also at The Coastal Bank in Hinesville. He was a fine gentleman that exemplified Georgia banking. My wife joins me in extending sympathies to his family.

Betty and Billy Wilson, Savannah, GA

Patty & Bobby-We are sorry for your loss. We all go back a long way to TCB & Southern Bank as well as being among the first pioneers on Dutch Island. He will be missed by many. Let us know if we can do anything for you.

Robert Powell Cassidy, age 85, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  Robert was born on August 17, 1932 in Newport News, VA.  He was predeceased by his parents Robert Aloysius Cassidy and Virginia Powell Cassidy and his sister Beverly Ann Cassidy.

He attended the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA 1955-1958 and graduated from Armstrong State College in Savannah, GA.  He also graduated from Georgia Banking School in Athens, GA and The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers, NJ and received his CFP certification in 1995.

Bob started his banking career with The Trust Company Bank in Savannah, GA as Vice President.  Later he moved to Milledgeville, GA as President of Farmers and Merchants Bank and later returned to Savannah to continue his career as President of Southern Bank and Trust Company.

After he retired, he worked part time with the Office of the Chapter 13 Trustee in Savannah, GA where he made many good friends and enjoyed each and every day he went to work.  He often expressed his time there meant more to him then working any other place.

Bob was a former member for many years with the Savannah Golf Club and The Chatham Club of Savannah, GA.  He was an avid reader of American Literature, a Falcons Football fan as well as an enthusiastic golfer all his life.  He was a proud Masters Golf Patron since 1958 and even played once at Augusta National.

He was a very compassionate, loving and gentle person who enjoyed all aspects of life.  He was a wonderful husband to Patty for almost 55 years.  Their love for animals was shared together and saw no boundaries. Bob believed that problems could not be solved by physical force nor hatred but only with loving kindness by gentleness, and joy.

He is survived by his wife Patty, sons Douglas L. Cassidy (Cecilia) of Poquoson, VA; Robert P. Cassidy Jr. of Savannah, GA; daughter Carol Cassidy Edmondson (Gary) of Newport News, VA; grandchildren Chad Edmondson, Casey Edmondson, Ryan Cassidy and Cameron Cassidy; two great grandsons and his beloved pets Chelsea and Holly.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Donations may be made to any animal rescue of your choice.
