Chris, Alice and I offer our prayers, As we have talked, Mike lived a fun filled exemplary life and we know he is with Christ, his protective Carpenter Builder in heaven. We are richer to have known both of you and your family and are enjoying living in the home he finished for us these past 30 years. Always: Alice and Ed Thebo

Alice and Edward Thebo, Savannah, GA,

I will always have such fond memories of you, Mike! You fought such a tough battle with such courage and humility. Many people loved you and will always remember you, but the one who loved you the most was Chris. She was your angel. May you rest peacefully now.

Dominic and Gloria Molella, Savannah, GA

Chris and family, Joe and I are very sorry for your loss. We have many good memories of Mike. My first encounter with Mike was as our son's coach for pee wee football. He was such a good man and a great coach - always kind and encouraging to the youngsters he guided. Of course, Joe and I remember him as a loyal and hard working member of the Corps of Engineers family! Also, we have admired his and your strength and faith over the last eight years. It was wonderful to see you recently and hope to see you more often in the future. Our love to and prayers for your family. Mary Ellen & Joe Caggiano

Robert Michael Green, Sr., age 74, passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous 8 year battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease on December 23, 2017. Mike Green is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine Lee Green, his son Robert M. Green (Rene), a daughter Buffy Michelle Thompson (Mark), his sister Elizabeth Holland, brothers Jack Herman Green (JoAnn), and John Danielle Green; two grandchildren Christian Taylor Green and Lacey Daniel Moser (Josh) and one great-granddaughter Ella Brook Moser. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Crouse Green and Mary Ann Brown, and brother James Joseph Green. Mike was born and lived in Savannah, GA. He attended Robert W. Groves High School and later attended Armstrong and Georgia Tech. Mike was proud and honored to have served in the Army National Guard for 6 years with a training group at Ft. Benning, GA for 12 months. Mike also attended numerous army schools throughout his career while employed with the Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District which took him to Ft. Stewart, and Saudia Arabia. Mike did a 7 year tour in Saudia Arabia and accepted a position as part of a team in building the largest military base in the world, King Khald Military City. After 22 years with the Federal Government Mike became a premier home builder, Mike Green Custom Homes and a longtime resident of The Landings on Skidaway Island where he worked for more than 26 years. Mike was a great family man, loving father, and awesome PAPA to his grandchildren. He was a social man who was deeply involved in playing golf and loved a great game of Gin. Mike became a self-taught golfer and a great one at that. His accomplishments in the game were winning City Amateur, Oglethorpe, Mary Calder and many local and state championships. As a member since 1983 of The Landings, Mike loved every minute of its both social and all of his “buddies”. He was one of the original Gold Blitz players and spent his last years with the “Working Men’s Group” where he acquired the greatest friendships of his life. The support and love that these “Buds” showed him during his illness was beyond special and the family will always remember them for this. Mike was also involved in little league baseball, football and softball. He mentored many young boys in Chatham County and to this day he is called “Coach” by many. He also took an American Legion team to the state and missed out by one game going to National.

Mike loved riding his Harley Davidson and many a day you could see him touring the island checking on jobs or just enjoying an afternoon ride. His love for the Atlanta Braves and Falcons was so faithful.

He was a member of the March of Dimes campaign, Benedictine Military School Alumni, Knights of Columbus Council 631, Fourth Degree member, served on the board of Senior Citizens, Inc., and an Inner City Night Shelter volunteer.

Mike’s love for the Irish Heritage in Savannah was so strong and he loved to take part in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He was also a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

He was communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was very devoted to his faith.

His family would like to thank all those at Kindred Hospice for the loving care they showed them during Mike’s illness. We sincerely thank all of those who have touched the lives of our family throughout the years, and during Mike’s illness, both in times of joy and sorrow. In gratitude, we pray that God’s blessings will be with each one always.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. James Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2017. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mike Green’s life.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to ALS, St. James Catholic Church, GRRR (Georgia Rescue, Rehab and Rehabilitation).
