Fleming and Mary Ann, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was a great guy and I always enjoyed seeing him. I will never forget on football Saturdays when he would be surrounded by a couple of televisions and maybe a radio so he wouldn't miss any of the action. I have very fond and happy memories of this wonderful man! Lots of prayers for you and your family.

Having raised two sons close to Justin and Jarad's age, Mr. Free became a stable influence in Jody and Kenny's lives. He was seen at every game and he was always easy, for this single mom, to approach and he was always giving me advice...even through the teenage years of dating! You couldn't help but respect and love his gentle soul. Along with his bride, "Pops" raised two incredible young men in Justin and Jarad and I feel blessed to know and love them like they are my own. My sincere condolences go out to all the family at this time. My heartfelt prayers to you all.

Robert Fleming Free, age 84, died Friday, December 22, 2017.

He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Myrlene, and is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Noonan (Chuck) of Brooklet; his son, Fleming Free (Marsha) of Duluth, GA; his grandsons Justin Brown (Stephanie) of Little Rock, AR; and Jarad Brown (Amber) of Savannah; granddaughters Rachael Raynor (Phillip) of Brooklet; Mara Akins of Brooklet; and Sara Free of Dover, NH; 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was born January 19, 1933, in Augusta, GA, as the youngest of five children. He graduated from Swainsboro High School and immediately began a plumbing apprenticeship in Charleston, SC. He then enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served for four years, with one year overseas during the Korean War. Bob met the love of his life, Myrlene, while stationed in Harlingen, TX. They were married in 1954 and, after being honorably discharged from the USAF, they settled in Savannah.   Bob joined C&S Bank, where he worked for 34 years before retiring in 1989. Bob was a sports fan, enjoying golf as a long-time member of La Vida Country Club; he enjoyed volunteering as a coach for his grandsons’ and granddaughter’s baseball and soccer teams; he was a die-hard and long-suffering Ga. Tech fan, and he almost never missed Atlanta Braves and Falcons games on television. He was a longtime member of the Savannah Quarterback Club, and he served previously in the Savannah Jaycees. In retirement he enjoyed collecting used golf balls and equipment, and he was active as an officer in the C&S Retirees Club. He and Myrlene raised their grandsons, Justin and Jarad, during his retirement. Ultimately, he became active in local politics with his wife, and he served as delegate for the Republican party at local and state levels.
