Rev. Dr. Robert Emmett Smith died Monday, July 30, 2018, at his home under the care of Georgia Hospice Care, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in Savannah, Georgia for the last twelve years.

He served as a pilot with United Airlines for many years before retiring and becoming a Pastor in the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. He obtained his doctorate in Psychology during his time as a pastor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy C. Smith, May 6, 2017, as well as his father, Lucien T. Smith, and his mother, Jacqueline Verheyden Smith, and his beloved Beauregard.

He is survived by Michael Smith, Jeannine McElveen, and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, followed immediately by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m.

Any remembrances may be made in his memory to the Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.
