Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and the rest of the Lance family. I can recall many times where Mike would say how proud he was of his father, especially with his service to our country. Chuck and Holli Williams

Paul Andrew Lance –  AN AMERICAN HERO

Paul Lance, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 3, 2018. He was raised in Brevard, North Carolina, and was known to his family, friends and classmates as “Dooger”.  His parents had little means but instilled in each of their sons the value of hard work and commitment to others; these are values Paul practiced throughout his life.  He along with his family enjoyed the game of football and for many years dedicated a trophy to the outstanding player at his ala matter, Brevard High School.  Upon graduation from high school Paul joined the United States Air Force and was sent to Savannah, Georgia where he met his soon to be wife of 67 years, Helen “Sandy” Becker.   He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years before returning to Savannah to start another career with Case Power and Equipment. He was never labeled a “Superstar,” “CEO,” or “Genius”, but was all of those wrapped into one. He served his Lord, family, and country every day, never complaining even when he left his family for months on special missions out of Area 51 which helped to ensure the safety of the United States and all of the free world.  He loved his family, placed a roof over their heads, put food on the table and made sure his children, Becky and Mike, had opportunities to further their education and contribute to society.  His work as a Mason and Shriner were part of his contribution to society as he regularly volunteered to take children with urgent medical needs to Shriner Hospitals. He was preceded in death by parents Jeff and Mary Lance, and four brothers, Richard, Doby, Lace, and Earl.

Paul is survived by his wife Helen “Sandy” Becker Lance, daughter Mary Rebecca “Becky” Messerly, son Mike (Debra), granddaughters Jamison (Kyle) Machen and Kaitlin, and great grandson Lawson. We love and will miss you dad, you are a true American Hero.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.

Remembrances may be sent to Alee Shrine Crippled Children Morris Slotin Fund, P.O. Box 14147, Savannah, GA 31406 or Southside Baptist Church, 5502 Skidaway Rd., Savannah, GA 31406.
