Offering our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Blanco family. May the love of family and friends as well as the words at “Psalm 147:3” and “2 Corinthians 1:3,4” continue to help you get through this most difficult times.

, ,

May the friends and family of Mr. Blanco find comfort in the Bible's promises that soon, "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out" (John 5:28, 29), and "[God] will wipe out every tear from [our] eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." (Revelation 21:3, 4). We can also rest assured that God 'will swallow up death forever, and He will wipe away the tears from all faces...for He himself has spoken it.' (Isaiah 25:8) https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/about-life-and-death/

Odilo was a good friend and a model citizen. As a fellow classmate at Benedictine he was an excellent role model and leader. Later, he excelled in the business world, and with Anne, raised a loving family while contributing to the welfare of his Church, Benedictine, his community, and to his fellow citizens. Odilo will be missed but heartfully remembered by all the friends made during his presence with us. God surely has reserved a special place for Odilo. May God bless Anne, their children, and the entire Blanco family. Hasta que nos encontremos de nuevo con mi amigo ...

We hope that if we can help in any way, you will feel free to call on us. He will be missed by the many people who had the privilege of knowing him.

Anne, it is with great regret that I am out of the city and will miss Odilo’s funeral. Although most of our friendship emanated from the benefit plans we installed at Savannah Foods, it was impossible not to feel a close friendship to Odilo after only a brief meeting. His smile was genuine and his warmth infectious. He always made me feel better after our visits or just seeing him socially. He made all of his acquaintances desire to be a better husband and father after being inspired by his love, devotion and pride in your family. He will not be duplicated and we are less as a community by his passing. Bob Merchen

Odilo and his mother were separated from his father by the Spanish Civil War and World War II, and Odilo spent his early years as a subsistence farmer in rural Spain. He and his mother immigrated to Savannah in 1949 at which time he met his father and began his education at the Cathedral Day School. He graduated from Benedictine Military School where he received the Outstanding Freshman Award as part of the Class of 1956 and the Father Rafael Arthur Award as part of the Class of 1955. He also served on the boards of St. James Catholic School, Benedictine Military School and St. Vincent’s Academy. He was a member of the Diocese of Savannah investment committee, the St. Michael’s Church endowment committee and a Trustee and Chair of the Chatham Foundation. “Dio” was a proud and actively involved grandfather having traveled to all ten of his grandchildren’s births and remaining a huge lasting presence in all of their lives. He was an avid golfer counting a hole-in-one and shooting his age at 73 and 81 among his accomplishments.
