Nannie Irene Webb Cook, 88, a retired school teacher, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018.  A native of Letcher County, Kentucky, Irene was born on September 22, 1929 to Ora and Critt Webb.  She graduated from Whitesburg High School and Pikeville College in Kentucky and also attended classes in Lubbock, Texas and Georgia Southern.

Irene taught school for 31 years, partly in Kentucky and Texas but the majority was with the Savannah-Chatham County school system.  First grade was her favorite class to teach and she especially enjoyed the subjects of phonics and reading.  Irene was a member of the Chatham County and Georgia retired educator associations.  Irene was a member of the First Baptist Church of the Islands where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Cann Cook, Jr. They were married 51 years at the time of his death.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ora Ellen Webb and Critt Webb and tow sisters, Carlene Webb Gose and Lucy Webb Osborne Horton.  She is survived by her sister, Larue Webb Compton; brothers-in-law, H.B. “Tom” Horton and Norman Cook of Savannah, GA; sisters-in-law, Betty Lawrence of North Vernon, IN and Reba Cook of Florida; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at First Baptist Church of the Islands. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Remembrance should be to the First Baptist Church of the Islands, 6613 Johnny Mercer Blvd., Savannah, GA 31410.
