Mary Letha Shutley Heidt went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 14, 2017, just one week short of her 93rd birthday. She was born on July 21, 1924 in Savannah to Mary Hughes Shutley and Ruben Shutley. She was predeceased by her husband, Walton “Dump” Heidt.

After marrying Dump she became a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an active member until her recent illnesses limited her mobility. She was a member of WELCA Circle #7. Mary is survived by her three children, her son Norman Heidt, (Linda); daughter Judy Cumbie,(Jim) and daughter Chris Heidt. Her granddaughters, Tracey Peterson, (Bruce) and great granddaughter Paige; Crystal Napier (Jason) and great grandsons Adam and Noah, and Letha Satterfield and great grandson Ethan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

During her children’s elementary school years Mary volunteered in the lunchroom at Pennsylvania Avenue School and later worked as a waitress at the Azalea Room of Levy’s Department Store. Mary played for a softball team sponsored by then Union Camp, Dump’s employer. She was an avid bowler and for a number of years was the secretary of the Livewire League, becoming well known at Major League Lanes on Victory Drive.

She enjoyed daily outings to the Thunderbolt Senior Citizens Center and made many good friends at the Center over the years.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Savannah for their care and concern over the past weeks, also the love and care of a special friend, Linda Bacon.

Visitation will be at Fox and Weeks, Hodgson Chapel, on Monday, July 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., July 18th at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel, with burial in Greenwich Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to Hospice Savannah.
