Since death wasn't originally God's purpose for mankind, it is very painful to deal with. Please be assured that God is love, and that He does not want any of us to suffer. He gives us the wonderful promise that He will soon eliminate death forever. ((1 John 4:8), (Revelations 21: 3,4).

You were so blessed,to have her as your mom. She is now the most beautiful angel in heaven. I love you all with all my heart and will miss your mom so much. May God be with you all today & everyday! My condolences goes out towards the family of Ms Bennett. I don't know her personally but based? off what I read I'm sure she was a lovely lady! I too lost someone close and still to this day it's very hard to deal with .I turn to the Bible for comfort, a few of my favorite scriptures would be ecclesiastics 7:1 which talks about a good name is better than good oil and the day of death is better than the day of birth. And also Revelations 21:4 stating that he will wipe every tear from their eyes and death will be no more! I always wondered what happens after death ? I Found my answers at www.jw.Org hopefully this will bring you comfort as well

Kelly, Savannah, Ga

My sincerest condolences go out to your family, it's never easy losing someone in death. May you take comfort in God's promise found at Revelation 21:4, which says "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This verse brought me peace when I experienced loss, I hope it can do the same for you. May the memories you have give you strength during this difficult time.

Laura Baxter Bennett passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017. She was born on November 20, 1934 in Malone, Florida. She graduated from Malone High School in 1952, where she excelled in her studies and was a state champion in cheerleading and baton twirling. She was predeceased by her father, Leslie A. Baxter, but better known to his friends and family as “Goat”, and her mother, Evelyn K. Baxter. Laura was a 1956 graduate of Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing, and immediately after graduating, she married her husband of 61 years, Julius H. Bennett. They were blessed with three children: Julius Bennett, Jr., Joan B. Cowart, and Lawrence A. Bennett, all of Savannah, GA.

Laura’s nursing career was exciting and varied. She worked at all three local hospitals and at the Red Cross over the course of her professional career. While she was working at Memorial Hospital, she assisted in the very first open heart surgery performed in Savannah. More importantly, throughout her career she motivated, cared for, and loved her patients just as if they were her own family. After her nursing career, she helped her husband operate several businesses, first by opening several Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouses in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, until they returned to Savannah when they took over Palmer’s Seafood House.

Some of the best and happiest times in Laura’s life were spending time out on the water with her family. She loved to take the family boat out, to fish, and to swim like a fish. She enjoyed day trips at the beach, and she especially cherished the summers where family would anchor their 32’ Grand Banks off the shores of Wassau Island, where they would spend weeks at a time fishing for their suppers, combing the beaches for seashells, and exploring the Islands.

Laura is survived by her devoted husband, Julius H. Bennett, her two wonderful sisters, Virginia Donaldson and Nancy B. Macklin; her three loving children, Julius Jr. (Charity), Joan Cowart (Quintin), and Lawrence (Kim); her cherished brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean B. and Lindy Lewis, Lois B. and Bobby Riner, and Stephen S. Bennett, her five handsome grandsons, Julius H. Bennett, III, Timothy J. Bennett (Claire), Lance A. Bennett, Chandler Bennett, and Joseph Reid Bennett; her beautiful granddaughter, Emma Cowart, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Red Cross.
