I have so many wonderful memories of Mrs. Filson, growing up with all the Filsons on Isle of Hope. Once, as a teenager, my friend and I were caught in a savage storm while out in a tiny boat, casting for shrimp. We couldn't make it back into our creek because the tide wasn't up enough. Desparate, we ended up at the Filson's dock. They were having a party and didn't expect to see 2 shivering river rats at their back door. Kate took us in, dried us off and offered to drive us back to the other side of the island. She was such a warm, wonderful person and I know she will be missed. God bless all the Filson clan, thinking of you and praying with you. Love, Agnes Lucinda Harty

Kathleen Ann Conboy Filson died on April 16, 2018.

“Kate” was born March 26, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA. where she grew up and later married “Ed” Filson. They moved their growing family to Isle of Hope, becoming integral members of St. James Parish. Kate celebrated her life through Christ in service to her family, her community, and to the Catholic Diocese of Savannah.

In 2002, she received the Benjamin F. Griffith Volunteer Appreciation Award for her extraordinary service to children and their families as a Victim Witness Advocate for the District Attorney’s office (1984 - 2002). She was also recognized by the Catholic Diocese of Savannah in 2017 with the Bishop Gartland Service Award. Kate’s devout faith, her devotion to her family, involvement with the arts, and her work to develop programs both in the community and in the parish all serve as a lifelong example to those who knew and loved her. She worked tirelessly so that others might realize their full potential.

Kate is predeceased by her husband, Edgar J. Filson, MD, and grandson, Andrew Prince. She is survived by Marianne Fahey, Beth Filson, Danny Filson (Laura), Katy Prince, Susanna Powers (Wright), Richard Filson, and John Filson (Beverly), along with her 16 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at St. James Catholic Church on Thursday, April 19th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm with the Rosary at 6:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 20th at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church with interment to follow at Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Catholic Diocese of Savannah Bishop’s Annual Appeal, P.O. Box 936253, Atlanta, GA 31193 or to Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center, P.O.  Box 9926, Savannah, GA 31412.
