I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a loved one can be hard to bear at times. May we always remember to call on God’s name. A scripture that you may find comforting is Psalms 34:18: Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.

, ,

I know well the grief of losing someone way too soon. May God grant you peace that passes all understanding.

Susan Larson, Eatonton, GA

Jeff's family is in our hearts and prayers. I had the great opportunity to work with Jeff at Epworth By The Sea. Jeff was also in my wedding. I still find it hard to believe he has passed on. May God be with you during this difficult time. Rev 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." Allen Fagan

allen fagan, brunswick, GEORGIA

My hearfelt sympathies go out to Jeff's family. I had the distinct honor of working alongside Jeff at The Sea Island Company. Jeff was an extraordinary leader who inspired all those around him. He did everything in his life with a sense of care, compassion and with great pride and joy. He was always someone who, even in the face of receiving much deserved awards himself, wanted to thank and recognize others. We will never fully know how many lives Jeff touched and made better by his good deeds and kindness. We do know however that those people are all over this country and indeed the world, in the Philippines and in Jamaica. His life goes on, not only through his family and friends, but through these many young people whose life he touched.

James Gibson, Colorado Springs, CO

My condolences to Jeffs family. We have been living at the Guest House for 6 months and had the pleasure of talking to Jeff most mornings whilst having a coffee in the lobby. A truly amazing person who will forever be in our thoughts.

Our most heartfelt condolences to Jamie and family for your huge loss. Carl and I were truly blessed to meet Jeff during one of our trips to the island and were grateful for his time showing Carl around on the boat. From our personal interaction, through our family's high regard for him, to the many memories posted as social media friends, we know that Jeff was a true genuine human. We are so very sorry. Eileen and Carl Ruleman and family.

Eileen Ruleman, Owings, Maryland

My condolences to Jeff's family. I was sad to learn of Jeff's passing and enjoyed getting to know him while I worked at Georgia Southern University and lived in Myrtle Crossing. He helped us launch a program to paint eagles and the airport was where then President Brooks Keel and Head Football Coach Jeff Monken and I painted the first one. He was a die hard fan and he was always willing to help do anything he could to support his Eagles. GATA. Again, very sorry to hear this news.

Christian Flathman, Houston, TX

My heart is heavy as I will sorely miss one of my Waynesboro boys. I do looked forward to seeing him in Eagle Nation. He caught the tight end pass in God's arms. Love to all who will miss Jeff.

Genie Fulcher, Waynesboro, Ga

So many precious memories we share! Probably my favorite memory is being together at the Fla game. My son, John, got to know Jeff there. Eating lunch, Jeff 'engaged' in conversation with Fla fans. He told them we came to win...AND WIN WE DID! You now have your Eagle wings. Soar high Jeff...until we meet again! Love you!

Wanda and Bennie Lee, Statesboro, GA

The world lost a wonderful husband, father, and friend when Jeffery Herrington passed away on the last day of 2018. Jeff’s connections and friendships were global. His infectious good humor and spirit endeared him to everyone he met. Whether you knew him for a few weeks or the better part of five decades, he made you feel special.

Jeff was a 1985 graduate of Edmund Burke Academy and a 1989 graduate of Georgia Southern College. His career included positions with Epworth by the Sea, Georgia Southern, Statesboro Airport, and, most recently, he was a valued member of the Sea Island team, where he served as Guest House Manager. During his career at Sea Island, Jeff was the recipient of the Enriching Lives award on two occasions and was recognized as the 2017 Manager of the Year for the state of Georgia by the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association.

When he was not working, Jeff could often be found watching his beloved Georgia Southern Eagles play. The entire Eagle Nation will feel the void when Jeff isn’t there opening day 2019 to issue his favorite piece of advice “throw it to the tight-end.”

Jeff is survived by his wife, Jamie Herrington; his son, Jordan (Tayhlor) Herrington; a step-son Dalton (Kenley) Pearce; his step-father, Wayne Weddon, his siblings, Sheila Weddon Bonner, Michael Herrington, and Steve Weddon; and brother in love, Bill (Betsy) Glisson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Weddon.

When Jeff passed away, he was surrounded by his family and his beloved classmates from the class of 1985. This group of 8 men affectionately known among the wives as “the brotherhood” will continue to celebrate Jeff and their friendship by maintaining a 25 year tradition of an annual reunion known as “guys weekend.”

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Jeff Herrington Memorial Fund, C/O Southeastern Bank, 15 Trade Street, Brunswick, GA 31525. The monies donated in Jeff's honor will be used to purchase a bench in his memory at Epworth by the Sea and will be donated to Georgia Southern Athletic Scholarship Fund. Donations may be made at the celebration of life service for those attending.
