I'm sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose someone we love. The Bible gives a sure hope of a resurrection. The scripture found at Isaiah 25:8 tells us that one day soon God will put in end to death. Please visit jw.org for more comforting information on this subject.

Since death was not God's original purpose for mankind ,it is very painful to deal with , but please read the wonderful hope that The Bible holds out for us all at Revelation 21:3,4

Jean Caines Gilmore died peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Jean was born on February 12, 1946 in Charleston, SC to William and Claudia Youmans Caines. She grew up in Beaufort, SC and graduated from Beaufort High School. After graduating, Jean moved to Savannah where she entered Draughon’s Business School and began a career at Johnson Lane in the dividends department. In 1973 she married Alex Gilmore of Blackshear, GA and began what would be a long and happy life together. Later in 1973 she co-founded David Copperhouse, Ltd. on River Street and after ten years of success there she decided to join her husband in the operation of Bay Camera Company for the next 26 years. Jean retired in 2009.

During her lifetime she served for many years on the Board of Congregation Mickve Israel serving the community in many capacities. As a member of the Mitzvah Committee she served the members of the congregation during their times of need. Jean was also a member of the Rotary Club of Savannah.

Jean loved to live life to the fullest and never took even one day for granted. She had many interests and loves. She dearly loved her family and her friends. She loved sports, playing cards, animals, and children. Her laughter and kindness will be missed by many.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Alex; their children, Alan Gilmore of Savannah and Harriet Shaughnessy (Joe) of Jacksonville, FL; their grandchildren, Chandler, Hunter, Hailey, Caitlin, Ryan, and Conner; and her beloved canine babies, Max and Barney.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, in Bonaventure Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the many nurses, doctors, and friends that have shown care and compassion for Jean and her family for the past several years.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances in Jean’s name to Congregation Mickve Israel, P.O. Box 816, Savannah, GA 31402.
