Sweet Judy. I am so very sorry to learn of Don’s passing. What a beautiful soul. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to get a giggle or two out of him last spring when you and the children came to my studio to work with me. I share his memory and that wonderful tale of his glee when he could finally ‘turn me back over’ to Brooks upon completion of our massive renovation!! God Bless you and your special family! Much love. Cynthia

Dear Judy, We are so sorry to hear about your great loss. Our thoughts are with you.

I knew Don in elementary school, Boy Scouts, and we were football teammates at Savannah High School. Later in the early 70’s we served together in the Georgia Air National Guard. Reflecting on those years I’ve never known a nicer guy. He was exceptionally friendly, kind, honest, and always a perfect gentleman. It’s very sad to read of Don’s passing but after so many years of suffering he’s resting peacefully. My most sincere condolences to Judy and her family.

James Donald Braun, of Savannah, Georgia, died at home on November 8, 2018 after a long battle with Parkinson’s and finally cancer.  Don was born in Savannah on July 6, 1945, to Edwin Erich Braun and the former Margaret Hudson.  He graduated from Savannah High School in 1963 and then Newberry College.  After a short time with an accounting firm, Don joined the family business, Braun Construction, and took over as President after his father’s retirement.

Don was a devoted outdoorsman and enjoyed many hiking, fishing, camping and canoeing adventures with his family and friends.  He was also an avid skier and looked forward to his annual skiing trips in the mountains of North Carolina and the West.  Don was a member of the German Heritage Society, The Oglethorpe Club, and the Savannah Yacht Club.

On June 24, 1967, Don married his high school sweetheart, Judith Nash.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jim Braun (Lisa) of Atlanta, a daughter, Laura Braun James of Savannah, and seven grandchildren, Darden, Matthew, and Davis Braun, and Hudson, Georgianna, Fielding and Dearing James.  All will miss his kind-hearted gentleness and devotion to God.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Peter J. Hartmann officiating.  A reception will be held at the Oglethorpe Club following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Youth Program at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 West 31st. Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
