George Bailey Hagood died unexpectedly Monday, October 1, 2018. He was born March 6, 1940 in Marietta, Georgia, to Dr. George and Sally Hagood.  He graduated in 1958 from Marietta High School where he was President of the Student Council.  He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1962.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1963 as a fuels officer.  He served in Columbus, Mississippi and Tachikawa, Japan.  He was honorably discharged as a Captain in October 1974.

He attended Mercer University School of Law and graduated with a juris doctorate in 1971 and began practicing law in Savannah, Georgia.  He was an associate with Downing, McAleer and Gaskin and later practiced law with his former wife Sally Keller of Savannah.  In 1993, he practiced law with Terry Jackson and Michael Schaiavone until his retirement.  He was a member of the American Bar Association, Savannah Bar Association and the Savannah Trial Lawyers Association.  He served as a judge pro tempore at the Recorder’s Court of Chatham County.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth “Lysa” Hagood Heslov (Grant) of Los Angeles, California, and her children, Olivia Rose Heslov and Maya Sara Heslov; He also survived by his son, George Keller Hagood (Isabell) and his daughter, Raleigh Grace Hagood of Orlando, Florida

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Woodstock Cemetery on Hopeton Plantation.
