I'm sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose someone we love. The Bible gives a sure hope of a resurrection. The scripture found at Isaiah 25:8 tells us that one day soon God will put in end to death. Please visit jw.org for more comforting information on this subject.

Kelly, Pooler, Ga

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one in death is very painful. I can't exactly understand how you feel, but our Heavenly Father Jehovah does, and he will give you the strength to endure. May the wonderful memories you have of Gean bring you comfort and the words found at Isaiah 41:13 where God says he is grasping your right hand, the one saying do not be afraid I will help you during this difficult time. Please go to jw.org if you have any questions about what happens to our loved ones we lose in death.

S. Love, , Ga

My sincere condolences to the family, during this difficult time the bible tells us that death soon will be gone forever (1 Corinthians 15:26). That should be of encouragement to all of us knowing that our loved ones will never die.

Kay Ferris, Savannah, Ga

Condolences to the Martin family. I know this is a difficult time for the family and I pray God comforts the family during this time of bereavement. May the many cherished and loving memories of Gean comfort his family and friends. A comforting thought to keep in mind is at Isaiah 25:8 "He (GOD) will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." May you all have peace of mind during this time.

Lisa, , SC

We were fortunate to have met Gean and Linda through our sons who attended Rhodes College. Tony was Chris's Big Brother and best friend. We so enjoyed getting together with Gean and Linda every time they visited New Orleans. Gean was a fine man and will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences to Linda, Tony, Todd, and the rest of family.

David and Dee Moore, Metairie, LA

Dear Linda, Todd and Tony, I was shocked and saddened to hear that Gean had passed. What a wonderful man! He was a strong and compassionate human being who did so much with his life. He always seemed to do the right thing. He was such a loving husband and father, devoted to his family and loyal to his friends. Remember the fun time skiing with our families? He was so good to J.R., Tim and Hunter. His life was an excellent example for all. My sympathy, love, and prayers for all of you, Cisty

Linda, Tony and Todd, You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I can't possibly know the grief you are experiencing but please know that we are all diminished by his passing. I held Gean in highest regard and respected him greatly. I will miss his jokes, stories and attendance at meetings. God's peace to you all.

Don Culver, Louisville, CO

I'm so saddened to learn of Gean's passing, I hope knowing that friends like us are holding you in our prayers now is of some comfort. We will always remember your visit Linda to our home on the coast of Maine for a lobster bake, we loved every minute with you. We especially enjoyed Gean's reminiscing of his deployment to Loring Air Force Base way up north in Limestone, Maine. Only Mainer's could truly appreciate how harsh and hardscrabble that remote area is. We are thankful for his service to our country. Thinking of you, with sympathy, Phil & Christie

Linda, Tony and Todd, Such very sad news. Gene lived such a fun filled life with so many accomplishments both personally and professionally that St Peter is going to welcome him with open arms and a long list of kudos for a job well done. I, as many others, remember Gene always smiling, always ready to offer a kind word and help wherever he could. All of us that knew and worked with Gene are a bit better off for those years of experience with Gene's wit and wisdom. There are no words that can soften the loss, but my life was a bit fuller having known Gene and each of you, as well.

Perry Kincy, San Diego, Ca

Dear Linda, Tony and Todd, Gene's family is more than his greatest achievement. We have the had the pleasure of being with you and Gene and know that his legacy is within your hearts. We will miss this beautiful gentleman with the kind nature, the big smile and the laugh that he shared.

Gean Wylie Martin, age 76, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. Family was his number one priority and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. As such, it was very appropriate that Gean was attended by his immediate family at the time of his passing.

He was born on August 31, 1941 in Charleston, SC as the youngest of four children to Allen and Blanche Martin. Gean graduated from Rivers High School in 1960 and was fortunate to spend a significant amount of time at the Mitchell Playground. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a degree in business. While at USC, Gean joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and in his senior year was selected as the USC Fraternity Man of the year. He participated in ROTC all four years and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force following graduation where he served on the KC-135 Tanker. After six years of service including participation in the Vietnam War and receiving the Air Medal, Gean left the service with the rank of Captain. He then joined Prudential as a large company group representative where he advised Fortune 500 companies on how to effectively manage their health insurance benefit programs. Prudential asked Gean and Linda to relocate on multiple occasions resulting in 10 moves in 8 years.

In 1980, Gean moved the family to Savannah, GA and opened up his own financial advisory firm, Gean Martin & Co. Over the next 38 years, he grew the business substantially from a local to region operation providing advice and expertise to mid-sized businesses which include a name change to Martin Financial Group. Gean’s two sons, Tony and Todd, joined him in the business and have taken over day-to-day operations but Gean was active in the business continuously until the end. Even though he received numerous industry awards, Gean told anyone who would listen that his best accomplishment were his family, kids and grandkids. He and Linda were avid travelers and have visited numerous countries over the years.

He was also devoted to his community most recently elected as Chairman of the Board for the Mighty Eighth Air Museum. Gean was also a longtime supporter and committed to the YMCA, Junior Achievement, and many others. He attended Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.

Gean is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years (Linda), two sisters (Naomi and Lillian) two sons and daughter-in-laws (Tony and Holly; Todd and Lauren), and four grandchildren (Hunter, Haley, Nolan and Grant).

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2pm at the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Rd, Savannah, GA 31406. Visitation will be held before the funeral starting at 12:30pm at the Isle of Hope Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to the Mighty Eighth Air Museum, the YMCA or the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church Christ Child’s Nest.
